Motorcyclist killed in Moulvibazar road accident
MOULVIBAZAR: A motorcyclist died as a truck crushed him in Sreemangal upazila of the district on Wednesday. The motorcyclist identified as Mofazzal Mia, 28, was a resident in Nazirabad area under Moulvibazar Sadar upazila. Police said the accident took place in the morning at Shurovipara intersection on Moulvibazar-Sreemangal road, leaving him dead on the spot. The body was sent to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital for an autopsy. Police seized the truck and detained the driver of the truck, reports BSS.
Free of cost vaccine for cattle in flood hit villages given
RAJSHAHI: More than 2,000 cattle will be vaccinated free of cost to protect those from foot and mouth diseases in around seven flood-affected villages in Manda Upazila of the district. Greater Rajshahi Association in Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh and Bangladesh Livestock Society (BLS) jointly took the initiative with the main thrust of protecting the domestic animals from any epidemic of the diseases. More than five experts and around 20 vaccinators will work for the purpose at five points, including Ramnagar, Joth Bazer, Norodanga and Shamuk khol, till Friday. Taking part in opening discussion of the three-day vaccination campaign in Joth Bazer area today, veterinary scientists and researchers mentioned that the post-flood time is very dangerous to the cattle as they might be affected by diseases on foot and mouth. They urged the service providers to reach the livestock related necessary services to the grassroots farmers so that they can protect their domestic cattle from the diseases. Prof Shubas Chandra Das from Department of Poultry Science in BAU, BLS President Prof Jalal Uddin Sarder and its General Secretary Dr Hemayetul Islam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Nuruzzaman, Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Anisur Rahman and Lecturer of Gonosashtha University Dr Riazul Islam spoke on the occasion. Prof Shubas Chandra Das stressed the need for uplifting the livestock sector for food security, self-employment and poverty reduction. He also called upon all concerned to come forward for flourishing the animal resources sector, reports BSS.
Youth killed in Nawabganj
NAWABGANJ: A young man was stabbed to death allegedly by his rival at Dighirpar area of Boxnagar union of the upazila on Wednesday night. The deceased was identified as Afzal Hossain Babu, 25, son of Md Mazid of the upazila. Quoting locals, officer-in-charge of Nawabganj Police Station Ansari Jinnat Ali said Afzal had a long standing dispute with Mizan, son of Minhaz Uddin of the same area. Following the previous enmity, Mizan attacked Afzal on Wednesday night with sharp weapon, leaving him critically injured. Hearing screaming of Afzal, locals rushed there to rescue him while Mizan managed to flee the scene. Later, locals whisked him to Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex. Doctors sent him to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital for better treatment. He was then shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at night. The body was kept in the DMCH morgue. A case was filed in this connection, added OC, reports UNB.
Gaibandha town to be free from traffic jam
GAIBANDHA: Speakers here on Monday have underscored the need for making the district town free from traffic jam and keeping it neat and clean all times to turn it into a good municipality. They were addressing a view exchange meeting with the political leaders, town elite, and officials at the conference room of District Collectorate here on Monday. With deputy commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal in the chair, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by police super Mashrukur Rahman Khaled, mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon, president of District Motor Owners Association Quazi M. Mokbul Hossain, president of Gaibandha Chamber of Commerce and Industry Shajada Anwarul Quadir, traffic inspector Ryhan Ibn Rahman Kazal, and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman, reports BSS.
