Sylhet divisional boat race was held for the seventh consecutive time in the river Surma here on Sunday. Bangladesh Rowing Federation and Sylhet divisional sports association organised the event with sponsorship from leading mobile operator Banglalink. Thousands of people thronged on the banks of Surma and on the Keane Bridge in Sylhet city on Sunday afternoon to enjoy the boat race.Finance minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhit formally inaugurated the event at Chandnighat, on the bank of river Surma. DIG of Sylhet Range Makbul Hossain, Formar law maker Saiyada Jebunnesa Haque, Sylhet City Mayor Ariful Haque, Rowing Federation vice-president Khused Alam, were special guests at the event. Divisional Commissioner Sazzadul Hassan, who is also the president of the Divisional Sports Association, chaired the inaugural programme.

The Hindu community of Gopalganj celebrated the religious festival Janmastami with a befitting manner on Sunday. The programme of the Day included rally, Puja, Getta Jagna, peace procession, religious discussion and proshad distribution. On the occasion Md Khalilur Rahman, DC, Gopalganj inaugurated a peace procession as the Chief Guest where Md Mizanur Rahman, Superintendent of Police (SP), Gopalganj and Rejaul Haque Sikder Raju, Mayor, Gopalganj Paurashava were present as special guests. The peace procession organised by Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Gopalganj District Unit. Where various religious organisation like Central Kalibari, Kahttra Kalibari, Dasana Kali Mondir, Scon Mondir and Bazar Kalibari attended the peace procession and paraded main roads in the city. Barisal BNP protest Broadcast Policy

Barisal district unit BNP and its 20-party alliance held agitation procession and rally in Barisal on Tuesday morning protesting announced broadcasting policy and demanded its cancellation. The rally held in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall in the city at 11:00 AM Tuesday was addressed among others by Mejbahuddin Farhad, district (north) BNP president and former lawmaker, Abul Kalam Shahin, district (south) BNP secretary. The speakers said government prepared national broadcasting policy for controlling media from criticisms against their autocratic, irregular and corrupted rules.
