Three Jamaatmen among 56 held in Satkhira
SATKHIRA: Police, in special drives from Wednesday night to this morning, arrested 56 persons including two drug traders, three activist of Jamaat-e-Islami. They also recovered 30 bottles of Phensidyl syrup from eight upazilas of the district. Sources with the district police said they were picked up from different areas of the district. During the drives, Satkhira Sadar police arrested 30 persons including one drug trader with 25 bottles of Phensidyl syrup, Kalaroa police seven persons including two activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, Tala police five, Kaliganj police two, Shyamnagar police three, Assasuni police arrested three persons including one drug trader with five bottles of Phensidyl syrup, Patkelghata police arrested an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami and Debhata police arrested five accused. Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added. The arrested were sent to jail, reports BSS.
Dictionary distribution ceremony among students held

KAUKHALI (Pirojpur) : “Desh Dosh”, a socio-economic and development organization distributed English to Bengali and Bengali to English dictionaries among the meritorious students of 19 primary and high schools of Kaukhali Upazila (Sub-districts) at a function recently. Held at the S B Government Girls’ High School , the function was presided over by school headmaster Mostafizur Rahman. Editor of Bangladesher Khabor and National Press Club Vice-President Azizul Islam Bhuyian attended the function as chief guest while Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Treasurer Sebika Rani, Kaukhali Upazila Education Officer Mamurur Rashid Milton, and noted social worker Amir Kashru were the special guests. ‘Desh Dosha’ Member-Secretary Kazi Rohiya Begum Hashi gave the welcome address. Besides, recipients of dictionaries , head masters of the respective schools and local elites attended the function. The speakers observed that in this age of satellite culture, the students remain busy in viewing TVs and handling mobile sets. This causes wasting their valuable time and hampers persuasion of knowledge and wisdom. Under such circumstances when the education arena has been facing serious erosion of values, this distribution of dictionaries among the boys and girls of school is a very significant incident.
One to die for killing wife in Kishoreganj

A court here on Tuesday sentenced one person to get hang till the death for the charge for wife killing under Bhairab Upazila on 28 October 2013. He was Ramjan Ali, son of Md. Siraj Mia of village Sultanpru under B.Baria District. Additional District & Session Judge Md. Shajahan Kabir handed down the verdict. As per the prosecution, the convicts charge against the killed his wife Pervin Akter (19), daughter of Hossain Ali of vilage Shambupur Dayabari of Bhairab upazila. In 25 October 2013 Pervin Akter goes to her father in law house at Maddarchar in Bhairab Upazila. 28 October 2013 her deadbody was found beside ponds. In this connection victim father Hossain Ali a case was filed Bhairab Police Station.
