Housewife tortured to death in Jessore

A housewife was beaten to death allegedly by his husband at Bokchar in the town on Saturday night. The dead was identified as Bizli Khatun, 22, wife of Golam Morshed of Bokchar of the town and also daughter of Billal Hossain of Birampur village under Kotwali police station. Relatives and locals alleged that the housewife was beaten to death by her husband at around 8pm on Saturday following a feud. Then he announced that the woman committed suicide. Bazlur Rashid, maternal uncle of the victim told journalists that her husband used to torture his (uncle) niece very often. Enamul Haque, officer in-charge, Kotwali police station told that the body wore marks of tortures.
Manasha Puja held to save from snake bites

Manasha Puja (worship of the Hindu deity of snakes) held at the more than 529 years old historical Manasha Mandir of Bijoy Gupta, the poet of ancient Manasha Mangol poems, in Agoiljhara upazila of Barisal on Sunday. A three days long Royani Utsav, the festival of recitation and playing lyrics on Devi Manasha and a village fair, also arranged on this occasion under special security arrangements. Goats were sacrificed and Manasha Mangol Punthi was recited, Royani Gaan was performed in the festival started from Thursday. Prices of milk was increased up to Tk.70-80 per liter and banana was sold at the rate of Tk.96-100 per dozen in the area on this occasion as those were used in the ritual of worship of Devi Manasha, the deity of snake. Hundreds of Devotees from different parts of the country including snake charmers, gypsies attended the festival and puja of Devi Manasha to save themselves from snake bites and earn eternal peace and prosperity.
Motor cyclist killed in road accident in Chitalmari

Ariful Shaikh (28), a motor cyclist met his tragic end when his speeding motor cycle collided violently with a road side electricity supply poll on Shyaldhah-Bakpur Road under Chitalmari Upazils in the district on Sunday morning. Eyewitnesses said , on the day at about 11 am the ill-fated motorcyclist, son of one Wadud Shaikh of village Paranpur under Chitalmari Upazila was going from his village home to Shyaldhah bazar by a brand new Discover motor cycle and when he reached the place of occurrence he lost his control over the speeding cycle and it collided violently with the electricity supply poll. As a result, he was killed on the spot.
Road accident kills one in Kurigram

One person was killed and six others were injured in a road accident which took place at China bazaar under Rajarhat upazila in Kurigram district at 12am on Sunday where an Auto rickshaw collided head on with a tractor.Local sources said a passenger loaded Teesta bound auto rickshaw from Rajarhat upazila collided head on with a tractor from the opposite direction at China bazaar. One Monoranjan 55 was killed on the spot. Another six injured were admitted to rajarhat Upazila Health Complex.Officer-in-charge of Rajarhat police station Moynul Haque admitted the incident and said the tractor was taken to thana.
