Free medicine distributed in Dupchanchia

A two- hours long free medical camp and free medicine distribution programme was held at Dupchanchia Hamdard branch of Bogra district with paying rich tribute to Bangabandhu on Tuesday.A total 42 poor and marginal patients coming from different villages of the upazila have been given Medicare service and necessary medicine like syrup Cinkara, Syrup Alvasin and Syrup Carmina with assistance of duty Hakim Shahida Khatun from 10 AM to 12 PM at its branch premises. A discussion meeting, before free medical camp, presided over branch manager Muniruzzaman was held marking the day while freedom fighter Afsar Ali and proprietor Bithi iron trading Suruj Ali spoke here the usefulness of the distributed medicine. The speakers spoke at the meeting Hamdard Company arranges free medical camp in this day for render the Medicare service free in cost every year. Besides, the company aids the poor people elsewhere the country round the clock. They also appreciate the praiseworthy humanity enterprise for the human being in their speech.
2 BCL men hurt in rival attack

Two activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) sustained injuries in an attack by their rivals in Subidbazar area of Sylhet city on Saturday night. The injured — Moudud, and Nabid — were taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital. Of them, the condition of Moudud is critical. Quoting witnesses, Gousul Hossian, officer-in-charge of Kotowali Police Station, said that the duo was heading to Amborkhana road riding on a motorbike. When it approached in front of Eastern Thai Aluminum under Airport Police Station, some leaders of Sylhet city unit BCL attacked them around 9:30 pm, leaving them injured. Sylhet city unit BCL general secretary Abdul Halim Tusar declined the attack. Tusar also claimed that the injured are not BCL men; they are muggers. There are many allegations against them with different police stations. Airport Police Station OC Mosharraf Hossian said a motorcycle was found abandoned in airport thana area.
201 families brought under power network

About 201 families of two villages under Sadar upazila in the district have been brought under rural electrification network by Joypurhat Palli Bidyut Samity (JPBS) on Sunday morning. A simple function was also held on the premises of Niktipara Mosque in Dalahar union of the upazila. Advocate Shamsul Alam Dudu MP formally inaugurated the electrification programme at the villages of Niktipara and Rasulpur of the upazila as the chief guest. President of the union Awami League Rafikul Islam presided over the function. Deputy general manager of JPBS engineer M Shafikul Alam, general secretary Jalal Sarker and Rasulpur UP chairman Zahidul Alam Benu addressed the function, among others.
Chandpur’s ‘Bou Bazar’ thrives on all-women sellers , buyers
CHANDPUR :If anyone visits Chandpur municipality, he or she will surely find a unique kitchen market on Mayor Road where all the sellers and the buyers are women.Apart from vegetables, grocery items and fish, housewives, mostly from low-income families, sell other items, including needles, yarn, bracelets, necklaces, toys, chocolates, biscuits, chips, beverage, tea and even cigarettes in the makeshift market which is locally known as ‘Bou Bazar’. Locals said a group of 3-4 women started selling goods in the area nearly 30 years back, aiming to improve their economic condition.Now, around 80 women traders sell products worth around Tk 3 lakh regularly sitting under tents or open sky braving scorching heat, heavy rainfall and bone-chilling cold throughout the year to supplement their family incomes. Contacted, Amena Begum and Nargis, traders of the market, said every morning their husbands go to Puran Bazar on the bank of the Meghna River and Paler Bazar in the district town and purchase vegetables and fish at wholesale rates.Later, the female traders sell those items at their makeshift market at cheaper prices at minimum profits. One kg of Pangasius fish sells here at Tk 100 against Tk 150 to Tk 170 in other markets, the traders claimed, reports UNB.
