337 houses electrified in Natore

A total of 337 houses of Arjunpur, Matikopa, Balakandi, Nalkhola and Roy Halsha village under Natore Sadar upazila of the district have been brought under the rural electrification network by Natore Palli Bidyut Samity-1. For giving power connections to the villages, local lawmaker Md. Shafiqul Islam Shimul formally inaugurated a 2.38-kilometer new power transmission line as the chief guest at a function on the premises of Balakandi Government Primary School on Sunday evening.Public prosecutor and vice-president of District Awami League Advocate Sirajul Islam and joint secretary of District Awami League Syed Murtuza Ali Bablu also spoke on the occasion while local Union Parishad Chairman Jahurul Islam chaired the function.Natore Palli Bidyut Samity implemented the programme at a cost of Taka 42.87 lakh.

Hindu community celebrates Janmastami

Under the auspices of Bagerhat district branch of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Committee ‘Janmastami’, one of the major religious ceremonies of the Hindu community, marking the holy birth anniversary of the Lord Sri Krisna was celebrated in Bagerhat district town on Monday with due festivity and religious fervour. The day’s programme started with the lightning of Mangol Prodip by Srimat Akhilesananda, Chief Executive of Sri Sri Ramkrisna Asram, Bagerhat in the local Harisava Mandir at noon. It was followed by a lively discussion meeting held in front of Harisava Mandir on the life of God Sri Krishana and his works with Amit Roy, President of District Janmastami Udjapan Committee, Bagerhat in the chair. Al-haj Dr. Mozammel Hossain, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-4 and President of Bagerhat district unit of Bangladesh Awami League addressed the meeting as the chief guest while Al-haj Adv. Mir Shawkat Ali Badsha, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-2 addressed the meeting as the special guest. It was also addressed among others by Mrs. Happy Baral, MP (of Woman Reserved Constituency), Shaikh Kamruzzaman Tuku, Administrator of Bagerhat Zila Parishad and General Secretary, Bagerhat district Awami League, Tapan Kumar Biswas, DC, Bagerhat and Pankaj Chandra Roy, Police Super of Bagerhat.

‘Hundi trader’ held at Benapole

JESSORE: Members of Borger Guard Bangladesh in a drive arrested a suspected hundi trader along with Tk 28.50 lakh from Benapole Railway Station area in Sharsha upazila on Tuesday afternoon. Tipped off, a team of BGB conducted the drive at Benapole Railway Station and arrested Sree Subrata Kumar Datta, 32, son of late Sushil Datta of Krishna Nogor village in Jhikargacha upazila, around 4:15 pm.During the drive, BGB men recovered Tk 28.50 lakh from his possession, said Subeder Safiqur Rahman, company commander of 49 BGB battalion, adding, Subrata was returning from India with the illegal currencies. A case was filed with Benapole Port Police Station in this connection, reports UNB.

9 held with 2795 SIM cards in Bogra

BOGRA: Detectives in separate drives have arrested nine people along with some 2795 biometric registered Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards from different places in the district town. Tipped off, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of the district conducted a drive at Katnapara in the district town on Monday noon and arrested four people, said superintendent of police of the district Asaduzzaman at a press conference on Tuesday.
The law enforcers also recovered 2370 SIM cards of mobile phone network Robi, 325 of Grameenphone, and 100 of Teletalk, said the SP, adding, all the SIM cards have been registered through biometric method. Based on the information found from the arrestees, the DB team conducted another drive at Shibbati in the district town and arrested five others, the SP said. During the primary interrogation, the arrestees said they collected biometric registered SIM to sell those to two traders of Dhaka and Sylhet to run illegal Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) business, reports UNB.
