Two female teachers held for torturing madrasa girl

Police arrested two female teachers of Khadizatul Kobra (RH) Mohila Qaumi Madrasa of Gournadi upazila under Barisal district for whipping 160 times and injecting needle under nails of an eight-year old madrasa girl suspecting her about stealing Tk 100 on Saturday. Manirul Islam, officer in charge of Gournadi Police Station, said Renu Begum, mother of the victim Kamrunnahar Sumaiya,8, as complainant lodged a case on Saturday in this connection against four including female superintendent of the madrasa under section 70 of prevention of repression against children. Then police operating drives arrested Hafiza Begum and Fatema Aktar Liza, two female teachers of the madrasa till this report, the OC informed. In the case Renu Begum, mother of Sumiaya and complainant of the case alleged that Kamal Hossain Bepari, father of Sumaiya was a Saudi expatriate and three years ago she admitted Sumaiya in that madrasa as a residential student by giving hostel charges of Tk 3000 per month.
110 houses lighted in Baraigram

About one hundred ten houses were lighted at a time on the occasion of providing power connection to village Darikushi and Srirampur in Baraigram upazila under Natore district on Friday afternoon. On the occasion, a function was held at the ground of Srirampur hat. Baraigram U.P. Chairman Abdul Momin presided over the function. MP of Natore-4 seat Prof Abdul Kuddus was present as a Chief Guest.GM Nitai Kumer Sarker was present as a special guest. Chief guest Prof. Abdul Kuddus inaugurated electrification of 110 houses by switch on.
2 drug traders held in Sylhet

Police arrested two suspected drug traders, including a woman, along with 305 pieces of Yaba table from Bharthkhola in Dakhshin Surma upazila in Sylhet on Friday.
Acting on secret information, a police team conducted a drive in the area and arrested Bokhtar Miah, 28, son of Monfar Ali of Jauya Konapara village in Chhatok upazila of Sunamganj district, and Sabiha Begum, 28, wife of Shahin Miah, a resident of the area, said Jedan Al Musa, additional deputy commissioner (media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police.
Police recovered the Yaba tablets, six mobile sets, Tk 1.33 lakh from their possessions.
Girl dies from snakebite in Magura  
MAGURA: An eight-year-old girl died from snakebite at Shimulia village in Sadar upazila on Friday. Quoting family members, Magura Sadar Hospital doctor Muktadir Rahman said Shamima Begum, daughter of Kalam Mia, a resident of Shimulia village, was bitten by a venomous snake in her sleep at their home at night. She was taken to Sadar Hospital where duty doctors declared her dead, reports UNB.
10 ‘Shibirmen’ held in Satkhira
SATKHIRA: Police in a drive arrested 10 alleged leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir – the student wing of deregistered Jamaat-e-Islami – from a madrasah from Patkelghata in Tala upazila on Friday morning.Tipped off that a group of Shibir activists were holding a secret meeting at Sarulia Al-Amin Fazil Madrasah to plan some subversive activity, a police team conducted the drive there around 10am.Arriving there, the law enforcers arrested 10 Shibir leaders and activists along with 51 leaflets, 21 jihadi books and a laptop, said Molla Zakir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Patkelghata Police Station, reports UNB.
