11 jute godowns burnt at Tongi

At least 11 godowns of jute were burnt at Tongi Millgate Noabazer area in Gazipur yesterday. Th incident was occurred at 4.30 pm on Thursday . Later, staff of Tongi fire service station reached on the spot and brought the fire under control . Station officer of Tongi fire service, Morshedul Islam said, there is no electric line at godown. Fire may originates from the fire of last part of the cigarette. Jute, cotton including crusher machine were bunt. Fire has spread out around the jute mill rapidly and it had gone out of control.
Two killed in road accident in Thakurgaon

Two persons were killed at Choto-Khochabari, 5 km. south from Thakurgaon town, on Thakurgaon-Dhaka highway today ( Aug. 14, Thursday ) at 3.30 pm. when a BRTC bus hit a motor cycle from behind. One of the motor cyclists was killed on the spot while the other in the Thakurgaon sadar hospital. The BRTC bus was fled away just after the accident. The person died in the hospital was identified as Ilias Ali,40, a potato trader of Dholorhat under Thakurgaon district. The name of the person killed on the spot could not be known. Police and eye witnesses said that a Panchagarh bound BRTC bus coming from Rangpur suddenly hit the motor cycle coming from Khansama upazila of Dinajpur district killing one on the spot and injured seriously the other. Seriously injured Ilias Ali was admitted to Thakurgaon sadar hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.
Jessore Press Club president’s father dies

Jainal Abedin, father of Mizanur Rahman Tota, president, Jessore Press Club and also bureau chief of Daily Inqilab died on Thursday morning at his Muraridah based residence in Jhenidah.He was 92. He is survived by four sons and four daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn. He was suffering from old age complications, said family sources. He was buried at his family graveyard after janaja prayers.
Road mishap kills bus driver in Jessore

A bus driver was killed and two others wounded in a head on collission between two passengers at Shighajhuli on Jessore- Chaugachha Road under Chaugachha upazila in Jessore on Wednesday night. The accident took place while two buses coming from opposite directions collided head on killing Tazibar Rahman Taju, 45 driver of a bus on the spot and wounding two others. The wounded Hossain Ali and Ahad Ali were rushed to Chaugachha upazila health complex.
RU BCL men beat up student for protesting sexual harassment

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders and activists of Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday beat up a student severally for protesting the sexual harassment to the two female students of his department. The victim was identified as Ifti Shahriat, a third year student of law department of the university. He was undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical Collage Hospital. Witnesses said, at around 3:15am Ifti along with two female students of his department was moving at the university Rabindra Arts building premises. At the time BCL RU unit leader Abu khaer Mostafa Rinet, a 2nd year student of Management department, who was riding rickshaw drove rickshaw toward the female students and harassed them sexually with lewd words.
