Nationalisation of non-govt ednl institutions demanded

 A human chain was formed demanding nationalization of non-government educational institutions and to realize for 11-point demand at Gafargaon under Mymensingh by the teachers and officials recently. Later, the procession paraded the main roads of the town and arranged a short discussion meeting in front of UNO office. Md.Shariful Islam .Assistant Professor of Altaf Golamfaz Degree College ,Gafargaon Upazila Unit, President of Bangladesh College Teachers Association presided over the meeting. Lecturer Ferdous Ahmad, General Secretary, BCTS, conducted the meeting. MesbahUddin Ahmad Vice-principal and Assistant General Secretary of central Bangladesh College Teachrs Assoc , Arshad Ahmed Asad , lecturer of Altaf Golandaz Degree College and President of Gafargaon Non-government College Teachers Forum, lecturer Matiur Rahman ,Shahidul Islam, Mahbubul Alam Manik. , Abdul Awal Sheikh, Harun- ur- Rashid, Sabbir Kamal spoke and urged the Government to take decision of the nationalization of non-government educational institutions.
8 shops gutted in Comilla fire
COMILLA: Eight shops were gutted in a fire that broke out at Syed Ali Manson Market in Chandina upazila of the district early yesterday. Fire service officials said the fire might be originated from an electric short circuit at a shop at 12:15 am and it soon engulfed the adjoining shops. On information, two fire fighting units rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze after two hours of frantic efforts, said Comilla Fire Service Station deputy assistant director Farid Uddin. Two people, including a fireman, were injured while extinguishing the fire, he added. The affected shops owners claimed that the extent of losses caused by the fire would be around Tk 30 lakh, reports UNB.
BGB releases fish fries, plantation prog launched in Rangpur

 Seven Battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) here launched an extensive programme of releasing fish fries of different species and tree plantation at BGB Sector Commander Headquarters in Rangpur on Thursday. Sector Commander Colonel Abul Kalam Azad inaugurated the programme in a simple ceremony. As part of the programme, around 20,000 fish fries of different species were released and 10,000 saplings of different fruits, forest and medicinal trees were planted.

Voter list updating going on in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA :Work on updating of voter list has been going on at all the seven upazilas of the district since July 25 as elsewhere in the country.Officials of district election office said the election commission has taken measures to flawlessly update the voter list before the next parliamentary election.District Election Officer M Mahbubur Rahman said, “A total of 894 enumerators under the vigilance of 188 supervisors will be collecting data of voters from door to door till August 9.”Any citizen who was born on or before January 1, 2000 is eligible to get enlisted as a voter, he said, adding that if any aspirant voter wants to be registered, she/he needs to have a birth certificate, land deed (if any), ducation certificate (if any), receipt of house rent of copies of utility bills, passport (if any) and NID number of father or mother.Photographs and fingerprints of the aspirant voters will be taken from August 20 to November 05 at different registration enters, the election officer added.”Upazila election offices will receive applications for changing addresses of voters and dropping the name of dead people from the electoral roll between November 25 and December 15,” he continued.The enumerators as well as supervisors were assigned to perform the task in the district after providing them with necessary trainings which was held from July 20 to July 24, said Rahman.Deputy Commissioner Gautam Chandra Pal inaugurated the training programme at Gobindaganj upazila on July 20 as the chief guest, he added, reports BSS.
Shops fined TK. 1.24 lakh in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: The regional office of Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI) fined a total of 18 shop-owners in the region Taka 1.24 lakh during the last month of July for selling and manufacturing adulterated food items. BSTI in association with respective district administration conducted 16 mobile courts and found selling of substandard and unhygienic food items violating BSTI rules and regulations.The court also realised Taka 1.24 lakh from the shop owners during the drive.Altab Hossain, Director of BSTI, said the regional office has stepped up its drives against the manufacturer of substandard and adulterated food items. Such drives will continue in the days to come for the greater interest of the people, he said.The BSTI regional office also conducted 29 surveillance/squad drives for prevention of pilferage in weight and measurement and using of formalin in fruit and fish, the official added, reports BSS.
