RAB nabs 3 with 9 Kg cannabis in Jhenaidah

RAB personnel in Jhenaidah arrested three drug peddlers and seized 9.3 kilograms of cannabis from their possession in a Sailkupa village of the district on Friday morning. The arrested were identified as Feroj Biswas, 36, son of Seraj Biswas of Padamdi village and Faruque Hossain, 30, son of Abu Bakar Siddiqui of Srirampur village under Sailkupa upazila and Bakul Mandal, 40, son of late Nosim Uddin of Boalia village under Mirpur upazila of Kushtia. RAB Jhenaidah camp commander Major Manirt Ahmed said, acting on a tip off, the elite force raided the house of Feroj Bisaws and seized the cannabis from their house. They arrested the three from the spot. A case was filed with Sailkupa police station in this connection and the arrested were handed over to police. The arrested were involved in cannabis and other narcotics related trading in the locality for a long time, the RAB said.
Two held with phensidyl in C’nawabganj
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two alleged illegal drug peddlers with 184 bottles of contraband Indian phensidyl syrup from a house at Boro Hadinagar village of Shibganj upazila of the district. The arrested were identified as Md Shukur, 27, son of Wahed of Batikamari village under Mukshedpur upazila in Gopalganj district and Md Zia, 35, son of Sorap Sheikh of Shreepur under Ashulia Thana in Dhaka district. BGB sources said acting on secret information, a patrol team of BGB from Telkupi border outpost raided the house of one Tipu Ali at Boro Hadinagar around 6 pm and arrested the duo with the phensidyl on Wednesday evening. But the house owner Tipu managed to flee away. Later, the arrested were handed over to Shibganj police station. A case was filed in this connection, reports BSS.
2 RU teachers, 8 students get dean’s award

A total of eight students of different departments under science faculty of Rajshahi University on Thursday received dean’s award for their outstanding results in Bsc honours examination in 2015. Besides, two teachers-Professor Khaled Hossain of bio-chemistry and molecular science department and associate Professor Ismail Tareq of population science and human resource development department, were also received the award for their outstanding contribution in research activities. RU VC Prof M Abuds Sobhan handed over the awards among the awardees as chief guest at an award giving ceremony held at the conference room of the faculty on Thursday. Prof Khaled Hossain carried out research on arsenic while Professor Md Ismail Tareq on health expectancy respectively. The students are Tamanna Tasnim Prova of mathematics department, Saifur Rahman of physics department, Kawsar Hossain of chemistry department, Anika Nusrat and Shamima Khatun of pharmacy department, Tasnim Jahan of bio-chemistry and molecular science department, Tuli Rani De of population science and human resource development department and Md Moniruzzaman of applied mathematics department.
Housewife’s body recovered in Pabna

Police recovered a body of a housewife who was killed over a family feud last night at Shantinagar in the town On Wednesday. The victim was identified as Tania Sultana, 22. Being informed, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body. Police nabbed three persons including her husband Towhidul Islam Ranzon in this connection, said Mahmudul Hassan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pabna Sadar Thana.
