4 HuT members held in Sylhet

Four members of the banned Islamist outfit Hizb-ut Tahrir have been detained from the Sylhet city on Friday night. The detainees are Jewel, Saidur Rahman Tanveer, Ahmed Sharif and Raju Ahmed. Sylhet Airport police station Officer-in-Charge Shah Jaman said: ‘A team of Airport police picked them up from in front of a mosque near the police station on Friday night, while they were distributing leaflets among people.’ ‘They will be produced before the court within 24 hours. Of the detainees, Jewel, Tanveer and Sharif were released from the jail just few days back.’
BGB- smugglers clash leaves two injured

Two smugglers were wounded in a clash between Border Guard Bangladesh and the smugglers at Chhoto Anchra under Benapole port police station on Saturday morning. The BGB fired two rounds of gun shots in the air during the clashes, BGB and local sources said. Lt Col Matiur Rahman, director, 26 Border Guard Battalion told New Nation that BGB men were attacked by a number of smugglers as while they were conducting a drive at Chhoto Anchra on Saturday morning. The BGB men were compelled to fire three rounds of gun shots in the air being attacked by the smugglers. ‘The BGB men recovered a good number of smuggling goods from the spot’, he added.
Hiroshima Day observed at RU

Bangladesh Chhatra Front, Chhatra Union and Kendrio Sangskritik Jote of Rjashahi University (RU) unit yesterday observed the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Day in the campus yesterday. To mark the day, Bangladesh Chhatra Front and Chhatra Union organised a daylong photo exhibition separately focusing the devastation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. More than two hundred photographs and cartoons on the devastation were displayed at those exhibitions. They focused on the brutal atomic bombing by the US in the twin cities during the Second World War. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Kendrio Sangskrtitik Jote and Chhatra Front of the university unit also brought out an anti-war procession that paraded different streets of the campus. They also held a rally in front of the central library and observed one minute’s silence in memory of the 140,000 killed by the US atomic attack in 1945. They also urged the world leaders to take effective steps against Israil for violation of international Laws.
Child injured in bomb blast in Gomostapur

A child was injured as an abandoned bomb blasted in his hand at Kathal Bazar under Gomostapur upazila in Chapainawabganj distrtict yesterday morning. The injured child was identified as Mahbub, 12, son of Obaidur Rahman of Dosimoni Kathal village under the same upazila. OC of Gomostapur thana Firoj Hossain said, Mahbub picked up an abandoned bomb from behind a tea stall at Kathal Bazar and was playing with it at around 9-30 am. At one stage, the bomb blasted and at this, his right hand was blown away from the wrist. The locals rescued him and rushed him to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.  
Arms, ammo, heroin , clothes recovered
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered a revolver, two rounds of bullet, 500 grams of heroin and 64 pieces of silk panjabi from Trishrashia under Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district at early hours yesterday. BGB said, acting on secret information, a patrol team of BGB of Monohorpur Border Out Post (BOP) was waiting there and saw two persons coming along the road. Sensing the presence of BGB, they fled away leaving a bag. After searching the bag BGB recovered the arms, ammunition, heroin and clothes worth Tk. 12,02,400 at around 1-30 am. Later the seized things were deposited with Shibganj thana, the sources added.
