Some flood victims have moved to safer place with domestic animals and belongings as their homes were inundated in Sonatola, Sariakandi and Dhunut upazilas in Bogra over the past seven days. Sariakandi Upazila administration sources said , around, people have to shift their houses on the right embankment of Jamuna River at Chandonbaisha area. Most of the people suffering from food crisis and pure drinking water in flood-hit 10 unions of the upazilas. District Relief and Rehabilitation officer (DRRO) Shaharul Islam Md Abu Hena said, the government allocated 150 tonnes of rice and 400,000 taka for the destress people of the districr. Flood victim Sona Mia of Ghughumari village Sariakandi upazila said,she had to leave her residence few days ago without any goods because of serious river erosion. She is going through a hardship now owing to lacking enough food and pure drinking water. She added. A Mezanur Rahman of the same village said, he has shifted his house to nearby embankment with furniture as flood hit his area suddenly.
Sexagenarian crushed under train
FARIDPUR: A sexagenarian man was crushed under the wheels of a speedy train at Shovarampur village under Sadar upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Munnu Khan, 75, Son of Momin Khan of Bangalkanda village under Nagarkanda upazila of the district. Sub-Inspector (SI) Mirajur Rahman of Kotwali police station confirmed the accident and death, reports BSS.
One held with 50-kg ganja in Lalmonirhat
RANGPUR: A truck driver was arrested with 50-kilogram smuggled ganja from the Ratnai Bridge point under Sadar upazila in Lalmonirhat district today, police sources said. The arrested person is truck driver Shafikul Islam, 35, son of Aminul Islam of Fulbari upazila in nearby Kurigram district. “On a tip off, a special team of Detective Branch (DB) of Lalmonirhat police challenged the truck, seized the smuggled ganja and arrested the driver from the spot,” Sub-inspector (SI) Kamal Uddin of Lalmonirhat DB police said.”A case was filed with Lalmonirhat Sadar Thana police in this connection against the arrested person under the Narcotics Control Act,” the SI added.Later, police produced the arrested person before a Lalmonirhat court from where he was sent to the jail hajat this afternoon, police said, reports BSS.
300 palm trees planted in Lakshmipur
LAKSHMIPUR: Bangladesh Diploma Agriculturist Institute planted 300 palm trees both the sides of Mosleh Uddin road of Char Mansa village under Bhabaniganj union in Sadar upazila on Wednesday at the directive of the Prime Minister to avert deaths occurring from lightning strikes.Deputy Commissioner Homaira Begum inaugurated the tree plantation programme on on WEdnesday afternoon. President of Diploma Agriculturist Institute, Lakshmipur, ATM Khorshed Alam, general secretary M Abul Hossain, and organizing secretary M Mamunur Rashid were present, among others.A total of 3,000 palm trees will be planted in five upazilas of the district this year, sources said, reportsx BSS.
