Shibir leader held on sabotage charge in Laxmipur
LAXMIPUR: Police arrested a local leader of Ismali Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, from Alia Madrasa area in Ramgati upazila on Monday on charge of committing subversive activities. The arrestee was identified as Ashraful Islam, president of Ramgati upazila unit Shibir.Ramgati Police Station officer-in-charge Mukter Hossain said a team of police, on a tip-off, conducted a drive in the area around before dawn and arrested Ashraful. He was accused in three cases for committing subversive activities during the 18-party alliance enforced nationwide hartals and blockades, rweports, UNB.
Traditional ‘Pitha’ festival at Narail

A traditional pitha (cake) festival was held at Amada village under Lohagara upazila of the district on Saturday arranged by Amada Ideal College the festival. The festival was inaugurated by Sheikh Hafizur Rahman MP at 11am. The inaugural session was chaired by chairman of the college governing body Sikdar Abdul Hannan Runu. It was addressed, among others, by registrar general (rtd) Munshi Nazrul Islam, Principal of the college Al Faisal Khan, upazila Awami League president Ad.Daulat Ahmed Khan, Noagram UP chairman Syed Faizur Ameer Litu, journalist Kazi Hafiz and Sultan Mahmud. After the inauguration ceremony the guests visited the stalls of ‘pithas’. More than twenty stalls were in the festival to display and sell pithas like Kuli, Chitoi, Rosh Chitoi, Vapa Puli, Malpoa, Chandan kastha, Mukhsamali, Chusi etc. The festival ended in the evening with a cultural function.
View-exchange meeting held in Gopalganj

A view-exchange meeting was held at Gopalganj Press Club in the city Saturday evening. The meeting was organised by Gopalganj Press Club. Where Benazir Ahmed, (BAR) Police Commissioner, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Dhaka spoke as the chief guest respectively. He said, let us come together for country’s development and welcome of people, he told, reporters at a view exchange meeting. Binay Krishna Bala, DIG Admin, SM Mahfuzul Haque Nooruzzaman, DIG, Dhaka range, Moniruzzman, DIG Khulna range, Didarul Alam, Additional DIG, Khulan range, Habibur Rahman, SP, Dhaka, Sk. Rafiqul Alam, SP, Shariatpur and Md Mizanur Rahman, SP, Gopalganj were present on the occasion. Among others Syed Mirajul Islam, Secretary Gopalganj Press Club, Md. Morshadayan Nissan, Maasranga television, Miah Arifuzzaman Rifu, Dainik Naya Diganta and Mozammal Hossain Munna, SA television were spoke on the occasion. Earlier Benazir Ahmed distributed 6000 blankets among the poor people at Sheikh Moni Auditorium in Gopalganj city.
Convicted fugitive arrested

Sattar Molla, a convicted fugitive was arrested by the police of Kachua PS (in Bagerhat district) from the village Piguria under Kachua Upazila in Bagerhat on Sunday. Source added that police on a secret information Kachua PS raided the village in the morning and arrested him from there. He is the son of one late Abed Ali Molla of the village. He was convicted by a court of Bagerhat on the charge of cheating and a number cheating cases are still pending in the various Police Stations.
