One killed in road accident in Kushtia

A front rider of a motorbike was killed in a road accident in the district on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Sakil Ahmed Pappu 23, According to sources the accident took place when a speedy truck collided head on with the motorbike on Kushtia -Pabna highway at gobindogunia area of Talbaria union under Mirpurupazila at noon. The ill-fated Pappu son of Abdur Rashid of village Baholbaria union of same upazila died on the spot following the accident.
2 held with ‘26,000 Yaba tablets’ in Munshiganj
MUNSHIGANJ: Police arrested two people allegedly along with 26,000 Yaba tablets from Birtara Chandartek of Sreenagar upazila on Friday. The arrestees are Hridoy, 18, son of Md Dulal of Ichchhapur village in Sirajdikhan upazila of the district, and Rubel, 25, son of Akramuzzaman of Dolaga village in Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj district.A patrol team of police signaled three motorcyclists to stop in the early hours, said Additional Superintendent of Police (Sreenagar circle) Shaiful Islam.As the driver tried to speed away ignoring the signal, the bike fell into a roadside ditch after running over a pedestrian, Aminul Islam, 20, son of Abdul Malek of the area, leaving him severely injured.Later, police recovered the Yaba pills in 140 packets searching the body of Hridoy and Rubel, Shafiul said, reports UNB.
28,000 firecrackers, huge chews seized
BENAPOLE: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members recovered 28,000 Indian firecrackers and huge chews (Jarda) from a train at Navaran Railway Station here on Friday noon.Tipped off, a BGB team conducted a search in the Khulna-bound train at the railway station and recovered the contraband items worth around Tk 25 lakh from a compartment, said Ariful Haque, commanding officer of BGB-49 Battalion.However, the smugglers went into hiding sensing the presence of the BGB team.A case was filed with Benapole Port Police Station, the CO added. More land under jute cultivation this year
NILPHAMARI: The farmers of the district have brought a vast area of land under jute cultivation in the current season as they were encouraged by fair price of jute last year.Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said 10,460 hectares of land have been brought under jute cultivation this year which is 10 hectares more than the last year as farmers inspired by fair price of their product. The production of jute is expected to be 1,12,845 bells this year, the DAE sources said.Four varieties of jute – local, Tosha, Kenaf, Mesta – are being cultivated in the district. GM Idris, deputy director of the DAE, said farmers in the district have brought more land under jute cultivation this year as they got fair price of their product last year. The farmers sold each mound of jute at Taka 1,800 to 2,000 last year and they expects the same prices this year, he said The farmers might get bumper production of jute this year as weather is favourable, reports UNB.
Four Shibirmen held in Bhola
BHOLA:Police in a drive arrested four Chhatra Shibir activists from Burhanuddin municipality of the district on Saturday night. The detainees are – Abdullah Al Mamun, Sakhawat Hossein, Feyzullah and Md Shahin. Officer-in-Charge of Burhanuddin Police Station Ashim Kumar Sikder said a team of police conducted the raid at Ward No. 7 in the municipality responding to a secret tip-off and arrested them, reports BSS
