JMB member held in C’nawabganj

Police of Detective Branch (DB) arrested an active member of the banned Islamic militant outfit Jamaatul Mujahidin Bangladesh (JMB) from Chama Mushribhuja village under Bholahat upazila in Chapainawabganj district on Tuesday night. The arrested person is Md. Royel, 35, son of Motlubur Rahman of the aforesaid area. DB inspector Mahbubul Alam said, there were nine cases with Nachole and Bholahat thanas against Royel including murder, carrying explosives and under special power act. Acting on secret information, a team of DB police led by the officer in charge of Nachole thana Fasir Uddin raided the house of Royel at around 9-30 pm and arrested him. Later, on Wednesday he was sent to the jail custody through the court, he added.

Shops fined Tk. 6.90 lakh by BSTI in Rajshahi region

RAJSHAHI: The regional office of Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI) fined a total of 58 shop-owners of the region Taka 6.90 lakh during the last month for selling and manufacturing adulterated food items. BSTI in association with respective district administration conducted 38 mobile courts and found the shops guilty of manufacturing, possessing and selling of substandard and unhygienic food items violating BSTI rules and regulations.The court also realised Taka 6.90 lakh from the shop owners in 11 districts during the month of June, a BSTI press release said on Monday .Director of BSTI, Altab Hossain said the regional office has expedited its drives against the manufacturer of substandard and adulterated foods. The drives will continue for the greater interest of the people, he said, reports BSS.

Magura man dies from snakebite

MAGURA: A man died from snakebite at Tupipara village in Sreepur upazila on Tuesday night. Locals said a venomous snake bit Shahidul Islam, 40, son of Malek Shikdar, a resident of the village when he went outside from his home following nature’s call. Later, he died on the way to a local hospital, reports UNB.

Two drown in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ: A minor boy and a septuagenarian woman drowned in separate two incidents in Ullahpara upazila of the district recently. In Ullahpara upazila, a minor boy drowned in a ditch at Bhodrokol village in the afternoon.
Dewan Kowshik Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Ullahpara Police Station, said Nahian, 6, son of Khairul Islam slipped into the ditch beside his house while playing there. After a frantic search, relatives recovered his body from the ditch. In Sadar upazila, Kuhinur Begum, 76, drowned in Garadah river at Bhormohni village when she was taking bath in the river in the afternoon, said Abbas Ali, son of the deceased. Later, locals recovered her body from the river at 3:30pm, reports UNB.
