Lailatul Qadr observed in Bagerhat

Muslim community of Bagerhat district town and its all the nine Upazilas observed the holy Lilatul Qadr on Thursday night with due religious fervour and solemnity as else where of the country. The holy Quran was revealed to the greatest Prophet Hazrat Muhammd (SM) on this night to show mankind the path of worldly and eternal mancipation. According to the holy Quran, the night is superior to one thousand nights. Devotees passed the night offering prayers, recitation from the holy Quran, and holding Milad Mahfils and Zikirs in mosques and the individual houses. On this holy occasion a large number of Muslim devotees assembled in the local central (old court) Jame mosque, historic Saitgumbaz mosque of the great saint Hazrat Peer Khaja Khan Jahan Ali (peace be on him) and the mosque of his holy shrine, 8 kilometers and 6 kilometers away respectively from here to offer prayers.
VGF rice distributed in Panchagarh
PANCHAGARH: A total of 1442.40 tonnes of vulnerable group feeding (VGF) rice were distributed in all the 10 unions including one pourasabha under Debiganj upazila of the district here yesterday. Upazila administration sources said the government has allocated the rice against 36,705 card holders on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. Each of the card holders received 10-kg VGF rice, reports BSS.
Farmer electrocuted in Magura
MAGURA: A farmer died from an electrocution at Narsinghati village in Sadar upazila early on Saturday. Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Ilias Hossain said Aslam, 42, gave electricity connection surrounding the cowshed in his house to stop cattle lifting on Friday night. Aslam got electrocuted when entered the cowshed absentmindedly. An UD case was filed with Sadar Police Station, reports UNB.
Lightning strike kills youth in Bogra
BOGRA: A youth was killed after being struck by lightning at Dakshin Jamgram village in Kahalu upazila on Friday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Bakul Hossain, 22, son of late Musa, a resident of the village. Local people said that a thunderbolt hit him while he was working in the field, leaving critically injured. Bakul was taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where physician declared him dead on arrival, reports UNB.
RMP provides Eid goods to 500 distressed families
RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) authority has provided Eid goods to 500 poor and distressed families aims at bringing smile among them during the Eid festival. RMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam distributed the goods at Zianagar under Rajpara Police Station and Matiher Police Station area yesterday. Speaking on the occasion, RMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam urged the rich people of the society to stand beside the underprivileged families with financial help to celebrate their Eid festival. He mentioned if the solvent people extend support to improve the living and livelihood condition of poor and merginalised community in the society can be freed from beggar. In this regard, he said the present government has taken decision of freeing the society from beggar on priority basis. According to the Prime Minister’s instruction, the country will be freed from beggar by 2018, he told the people gathering. To this end, need-based programmes and strategies were undertaken., reports BSS.
He also said the government had a rehabilitation project for the beggars, under the project each beggar would be given Tk. 20,000 and other necessary paraphernalia for rehabilitation.
Islam said “the government has many other programmes to ensure food security for the poor people. We believe that we will be successful in implementing the decision to make our country beggar-free.”
