Oath-taking of Sayedpur upazila chairman held

Oath taken ceremony of the newly- elected Upazila Chairman of Saidpur Upazila Md Moksedul Momin held at the office of the Divisional Commissioner, Rangpur on Tuesday. After taking the oath and the charge as the Upazila Chairman he came directly to Saidpur Upazila Parishad Complex. At that time, he was greeted by the Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abu Saleh Md. Musa Jongialong with the other upazila officials. Later the newly elected Upazila Chairman was introduced with the officials of 17 offices of SaidpurUpazila. UpazilaNirbahi Officer was the president of the program held at Upazilla hall room. Professor SakhawatHossainKhokon, Upazila Vice Chairman Mohammad AjmalHossain, UpazillaAgriculture Officer, Humayra Begum was present and delivered their speech.In his speech Md. MoksedulMominsaid, “in order to keep the trend in the development of the government, he want the cooperation of the officials”.
Day labourer killed in Rampal landslide

Zakir Dhali (40), a day labourer met his tragic end in the village Telikhali within Baintala Union Parishad under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat when he was shelved under mud at the bottom of 20 feet water in a pond at the time of dredging out sands from the pond by a shallow dredger on Sunday noon, according to delayed report received here. In this connection a UD case was lodged with Rampal PS. The ill-fated day labourer was the son of one Aziz Dhali of village Sreefaltala under the same Upazila. Police and the locals said , on the day while the sand was dredging out from the pond belonging to one Liakat Shaikh of the village Telikhali at about 2 pm mud slid on the mouth of the dredging pipe. As a result, the dredging work was suspended. At that time ill-fated Zakir Hossain dove into the pond, went to 20 feet deep of water and tried to clear the pipe. But suddenly a heap of huge mud slid on him and consequently, he was shelved under the mud. The fellow friends of Zakir tried their best for long 2 hours to rescue him, but in vain. At last the matter was brought to the notice of Bagerhat Fire Brigade Station. Being informed of the matter a fire unit led by its Inspector Md. Habibullah rushed to the spot and recovered the dead body from 20 feet deep mud after a long endeavoring of about 6 hours from 5 pm to 10-40 pm. The deceased was the only earning member of his family.
3 held with 37 tonnes fertilizer in Jessore  
JESSORE: Members of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested three alleged smugglers and seized a truck with 740 sacks of government subsidised fertilizer from Churamati Bazar of Sadar upazila in the district on Wednesday. The arrestees are- Imamul Hossain, 18, son of Tahazzat Ali of Bodhkhana village in Jhikargachha, Sagir Hossain, 42, son of Amir Hossain, hailing from Sitarampur of Sadar upazila, and Abul Kalam, 36, from Bokchar Chowdhurypara in the district. At a press briefing, officer-in-charge of DB, Emaul Haque, said tipped off, a team of police chased the truck which was moving to Phulbari upazila in Dinajpur and arrested three persons. Later, they seized 740 sacks of fertilizer weighing around 37 tonnes, he said, adding that a case was filed with Kotowali Police Station in this connection, reports UNB.
Schoolgirl commits suicide in Benapole
BENAPOLE: A schoolgirl allegedly committed suicide by hanging at Narayanpur village in Benapole Port Police Station on Tuesday. The deceased was Asha Basu, 14, a class VII student of Benapole Marium Memorial Girls’ School in Benapole and daughter of Jatin Basu of the village. The girl’s relatives said Asha killed herself with ceiling by orna (a piece of cloth) in her room in the morning.On information, police recovered the hanging body and sent it to hospital morgue, said sub-Inspector of Benapole Port Police Station Monir Hossain, reports UNB.
