Iftar Mahfil, view exchange meet held

An iftar Mahfil and view exchange meeting was organised by Gafargaon Upazila Anti-Corruption Committee at Gafargaon Upazila under Mymensingh recently. In the view exchange meeting Government officials , principals of Government college, teachers of different schools, Satota Songo, Banik Somitee, local journalists, officials of NGO were present . Upaziola Anti-corruption committee President Dr.Advocate K.M.Ehsan presided over the meeting. Deputy Director Md. Jahangir Alam of Mymensingh district Anti-corruption committee , Principal Professor Md.Amir Hossain of Gafargaon Government college, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Dr.Shanim Rahman, Gafargaon Press-club president Ataur Rahman Mintu also spoke in the view exchange meeting.

Case lodged, SI closed for demanding toll

A sub inspector of Gournadi police station closed and police-source sent to jail after a case lodged in connection of demanding toll from a Saudi expatriate. Firoj Kabir, officer in charge of Gournadi police station, acknowledging the facts said Rima Rahman, sister in law of the victim Syed Chunnu, as complainant lodged a case in this connection on Tuesday night against ten accused. In the case it was alleged that one Latif Bepari, identifying himself as a police source, demanded Tk 2 lakhs as toll from Saudi expatriate Syed Chunnu after he started construction of building at his native village Gobordhon recently.
When Chunnu denied fulfilling demand of the miscreant, then Latif Bepari along with SI Mazharul and others tried to arrest Chunnu inducting in a false drug peddling case few days ago. Local people interfering in the matter saved Chunnu from the grip of police at that time. However Latif Bepari along with other accused attacking Syed Chunnu on Monday night snatched Tk 35 thousand from him when the victim was on way to clear dues of the suppliers of construction materials.

23,900 dogs to be vaccinated in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA: A total of 23,900 dogs including stray ones, staying at homes and moving freely in seven upazilas of the district will be vaccinated from June 14 to 24 in two phases aimed at building rabies free district.Of the total, some 3,800 dogs will be brought under Mass Dog Vaccination (MDV) programme in Sadar and Sundarganj upazilas each, 3,400 in Palashbari upazila, 4,000 in Gobindaganj and 3,500 in Shaghata in first phase from June 14 to 18 and 2,000 in Fulchhari upazila and 3,400 in Sadullapur in second phase from June 18 to 24.This was disclosed by MDV consultant Dr. Rashed Ali Shah in a briefing meeting on Implementation of MDV programme at the conference room of Sadar upazila administration of the town here on Monday afternoon.Sadar upazila health department arranged the function at the directive of Directorate General of Health Services to inform the upazila level officials, union parishad chairmen, and media men about the programme.UNO Alia Ferdous Zahan addressed the meeting as the chief guest while upazila health and family planning officer (UHFPO) Dr. ABM Abu Hanif presided over the ceremony.The function was also addressed, among others, by upazila livestock officer Dr. Monojit Kumar Sarker, consultant of the programme Dr. Mujibur Rahman, Ghagoa union parishad chairman Aminuruzzaman Rinku and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman.Consultant Dr. Mujibur Rahman said rabies is a deadly virus which can be spread by any animal. In Bangladesh, 2000 human deaths occur every year for not taking preventable treatment after dog bites.Rabies is most often transmitted via the saliva of bats, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, and skunks. In Bangladesh, stray dogs are the most likely animal to transmit rabies.
The virus has also been found in cows, cats, ferrets, and horses, he added. After being bitten by a rabid animal, the virus is deposited in the muscle and subcutaneous tissue; he said adding that the virus then travels via peripheral nerves to the brain and from there to nearly all parts of the body and ultimately leads to deaths, reports BSS.

Army launches tree plantation campaign in Rangpur area
RANGPUR: Bangladesh Army yesterday launched its tree plantation campaign-2017 in the cantonments, garrisons and other establishments in northern Rangpur area.
Under the programme, 21,000 saplings of fruit bearing, wood yielding and medicinal plants are being planted in Rangpur cantonment, Bir Uttam Shaheed Mahbub Senanibas (BUSMS) and Syedpur cantonment. Rangpur Area Commander and General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 66 Infantry Division Major General Md Masud Razzaque, ndc, afwc, psc, formally inaugurated the campaign by planting saplings inside Rangpur cantonment this morning. High-ranking military officers, commanding officers, junior commissioned officers, members of different other ranks of Rangpur Station of Bangladesh Army and local journalists were present on the occasion.
Similarly, the authorities concerned of BUSMS and Syedpur cantonment under Rangpur Area launched the tree plantation campaign under their own managements in their respective areas yesterday.
