New Nepal PM Deuba takes oath of office

Veteran politician of Nepal Sher Bahadur Deuba was today sworn in prime minister by President Bidya Devi Bhandari. The 70-year-old leader, who became Nepal’s prime minister for the fourth time, succeeded Maoist leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda who had resigned after nine months to honour a power-sharing deal and proposed Mr Deuba’s name. Mr Deuba, President of Nepal’s oldest party the Nepali Congress, was elected the 40th prime minister yesterday, following a voting in parliament.

Australian police to get greater powers

Police in Australia’s most populous state will be allowed to shoot suspects in “terrorist related” incidents even if the attacker does not pose an imminent threat, under a proposed law, New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian said on Thursday.
The change comes after a series of “lone wolf” ISIS-inspired attacks, the most serious of which raised questions about the traditional police strategy of “contain and negotiate” in hostage situations.

Blast at US embassy in Kiev

An overnight blast hit the premises of the US embassy in Kiev but there were no casualties, the Ukrainian police said on Thursday.. The blast hit the mission located in central Kiev shortly after midnight, a statement said.

Nepal bans Polish climber

A Polish man has been banned from climbing any mountain in Nepal for 10 years after he made a rare traverse of Mount Everest last month without the correct permit, a Nepali official said on Thursday. Janusz Adam Adamski, 49, from Szczecin, Poland, climbed the world’s highest peak on May 21 from the Chinese route and descended on the Nepali side of the mountain that straddles their border.
