Science, Technology Fair begins in Netrakona
NETRAKONA: A three-day Science and Technology Fair marking the 38th Science and Technology Week-2017 began on the Anjuman Government High School premises in the district on Saturday. Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy formally inaugurated the fair as the chief guest in presence of district level officers, public representatives and civil society members. The district administration organized the fair. After the inauguration a discussion meeting was held with Deputy Commissioner Musfiqur Rahman in the chair. The deputy minister said the present government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been putting it’s best and sincere efforts for building up the country as “digital Bangladesh” in line with the government vision -2021. It was addressed, among others, by former MP and general secretary of the district Awami League Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru, commander of the district Muktijoddha Sangsad Nurul Amin, prominent social worker Dr. MA Hamid and general secretary of Netrakona press club Shamolendu Paul, reports BSS.

RAB arrested four robbers with firearms

The rapid action battalion personnel on early Saturday have arrested four robbers and recovered fire arms from a village of Jhenidah Sadar upazila. The arrested were Bikash Biswas, 38, son of Bimal Biswas of Thoipara village of Salikha upapzila in Magura, Tibbet Sikder alias Tibbat Dakter, 54, son of late Narendra Nath Sarker and Kumud Sarker, 26, son of Thakur Sarker, both from Dakkhin Shikerpur village of Jhenidah Sadar upazila and Sukanur Rahman, 30, son of Moksed Ali Khan of Natopara village of Kaliganj upazila. RAB6 company commander Major Manir Ahmed said, they were informed that a gang of armed robbers were staying near Katakhal bridge at Miakundu village of Sadar upazila during a patrol work on the road. The elite forces rushed a mehegoni tree orchard owned by some Kader Joarder and near the bridge and managed to nab four robbers with a single barrel gun, a foreign made double barrel gun, three rubber bullets, an empty carton of 303 rifle and a sword from the possession of the robbers.Jhenidah Sdar police staion officer in charge Amdadul Haque said, a case was filed with Jhenidah Sadar police station and the arrested were sent to Jhenidah cognizance court 1.

Robbers held in Jessore

Police arrested two alleged robbers along with some homemade
weapons during a drive in Hamkura area of Jessore-Narail road on Saturday night.
The arrestees were identified as Monirul Islam, son of Md Kamal Hossain, of Bakchar Purbapara area in Jessore, and Al-Amin, son of Golam Mostofa Sheikh of Brahmaninagar village in Lohagara upazila of Narail district.

Sub-Inspector of Kotwali Police Station Md Zamil said on secrete information they conducted the drive in the area around 1:30 am and arrested the duo while they were preparing to commit a robbery.

Others 7/8 members of the robber team managed to flee, he said.

Police also recovered two machetes, one Chinese axe, one wood-cutter axe, one knife, three steel’s pipe and rope from the spot, the SI said.

A case was filed in this connection.

Teenage worker killed in Comilla shop fire

Comilla: A teenage shop worker was burned to death as a fire broke out at Kongso Bazar of Burichang upazila early Friday. The deceased was identified as Nazmul Hasan Khokon, 14, worker of a cloth shop owned by Morshed Alam.
Md Yahia, assistant director of Comilla Fire Service and Civil Defence, said that the fire broke out at the bazar around 1am.On information, three fire fighting units from Comilla, Chandina and Muradnagar rushed to the spot and doused the fire after four hours of frantic efforts.
Later, they recovered the charred body of Khokon from the locked shop.
The fire also burned down around 50 shops of the bazaar, added the fire service official, reports BSS.
