Lightning strike kills one in C’nawabganj

One person was killed by lightning strike at Ghonpara Batrisrashia village under Narayanpur union of Chapainawabganj sadar upazila on Thursday evening. The deceased was identified as Md. Rafiq, 55, son of Riazuddin of the aforesaid area. Chairman of Narayanpur UP Md. Kamal Uddin Hoda said, Rafiq went out of home during a thunder shower at around 5-30 pm to bring his cattle and goats home. At this time thunder bolt hit them killing Rafiq and four goats on the spot, he added.
4 lakh metres current net seized in Munshiganj
MUNSHIGNAJ: Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard in a drive seized four lakh metres of illegal current nets in the Meghna river near Gazaria in the district on Thursday. Station Commander of Pagla Coast Guard Lt Commander Sayeed M Kased said, being tipped-off, a team of coast guard conducted a drive in MV Green Water-7 launch and seized 300 packets containing four lakh meters of current net worth of about Tk 90 lakh. Later, the nets were burnt on the bank of the river, added the commander, reports UNB.
Shops fined Tk 1.26 lakh by BSTI in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: The regional office of Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI) fined a total of 13 shop-owners of the district Taka 1.26 lakh during the last month for selling and manufacturing adulterated food items. BSTI in association with respective district administration conducted 10 mobile courts and found the shops guilty of manufacturing, possessing and selling of substandard and unhygienic food items violating BSTI rules and regulations. The court also realised Taka 1.26 lakh from the shop owners during the month of May. Altab Hossain, Director of BSTI, said the regional office has expedited its drives against the manufacturer of substandard and adulterated foods. Such drives will continue in the days to come for the greater interest of the people, he said, reports BSS.
Training for Sheikh Russell Digital Labs’ teachers begins
GAIBANDHA: A five-day training for teachers of Sheikh Russell Digital Labs’ began at Govt. Technical School & College of the town here yesterday with a call to build digital Bangladesh through ICT education expansion. ICT directorate under the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology has arranged the training on ICT in Education Literacy, Troubleshooting and Maintenance in cooperation with Bangladesh Technical Education Board, Dhaka. Shipping Minister inaugurates two development works in Jessore

Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan on Friday inaugurated the international passengers’ terminal constructed at the cost of Tk 7, 68, 17,882 at Benapole land port and River Bhairab dredging works at Nawapara river port in the district. Ashok Kumar, secretary, ministry of shipping, Tapan Chowdhury, chairman, Bangladesh land port authority, Firoj Alam, member, national board of revenue, Dr Humayun Kabir, deputy commissioner, Jessore, Shaukat Hossain, customs commissioner, Benapole, Lieutenant Colonel Arifur Rahman, commanding officer , 49 Border Guard Battalion and other officials concerned attended the opening sessions at Benapole and Nawapara. Every passenger has to pay Tk 33 on entering into the terminal which has constructed on 1 lakh 3 thousand 675 square feet areas, port sources said. The shipping minster earlier inaugurated the dredging works of the River Bhairab at Nawapara industrial town in the morning. The minister, in his speech, said on completion of the dredging works a total of 8 motor vehicles would be able to ply parallel at the same time.
One crushed under wheels of truck in Kaliganj

A person was crushed to death under the wheels of a speeding truck near Jhenidah-Kaliganj highway under Kaliganj upazila in Jhenaidah on Thursday morning. The deceased was identified as Abdur Razzaque, 50, of Narendrapur village of the same upazila. Kaliganj police station officer in charge Aminul Islam said, Razzaqque, a night guard of a poultry farm was returning home at about 8.00 AM. A Jessore bound truck dashed him from the back at Baklia leaving Razzaque dead on the spot. The fire fighters from Kalianj recovered the body. The killer truck left the scene immediate after the incident. They are processing to file case with Kaliganj police station. The body was sent to Jhenidah general hospital morgue for post mortem examination.
