A group of 91 prisoners escaped a jail in northeastern Brazil on Thursday by fleeing through a 30-meter (100-foot) tunnel, Brazilian media said.
Nine of the inmates have been found, while police are attempting to catch the remaining 82 who disappeared from the prison in Parnamirim, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, according to the Agencia Brasil news agency.
13 Afghan soldiers killed in Kandahar

At least 13 soldiers were killed and eight others wounded in fighting with Taliban insurgents at several security checkpoints in southern Afghanistan, a government official said on Thursday. Daulat Waziri, spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Defence, said the fighting took place overnight in southern Kandahar province when Taliban fighters stormed the checkpoints and battles lasting for several hours ensued.
Turkish forces kill 29 Kurdish militants

Turkish security forces killed 29 Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants in an operation in a mountainous area of eastern Turkey’s Agri and Van provinces, the Agri governor’s office said on Friday. Turkey’s army said on Thursday three Turkish soldiers and a member of the state-sponsored village guard militia had been killed in the operation, launched in the Tendurek mountain area along the border of the two provinces, near the Iranian border.
Mudslide, floods in Sri Lanka, kill 25

Floods and mudslides triggered by heavy monsoon rains in western and southern Sri Lanka left at least 25 dead and 42 missing, the government said Friday.
The Disaster Management Center said that more than 7,800 persons are affected by the calamity. Home Affairs Minister Vajira Abeywardana told reporters that the adverse weather conditions could escalate.
