Workshop on women, children dev held in Durgapur
RANGPUR: Bangladesh has already turned into a global role model for development of women and children in eradicating social curses and ensuring safe maternity, maternal and neonatal health services, pure drinking water and sanitation. This view was expressed at an orientation workshop organised for the leading personalities by District Information Office (DIO) in Durgapur Union Parisahd auditorium under Mithapukur upazila on Monday afternoon. Senior District Information Officer (DIO) Humayun Kobir presided over the workshop arranged under fourth-phase of the Maas Communication Programme for Development of Children and Women Project. Mithapukur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mamun-Ar-Rashid attended the workshop as the chief guest, reports BSS.
Sexagenarian killed in Sirajganj road crash
SIRAJGANJ:A sexagenarian man was killed in a road accident at Rupsibazar in Belkuchi upazila on Monday morning. Witnesses said the accident took place when a CNG-run auto rickshaw hit Riad Uddin while he was crossing Enayetpur-Shahjadpur road around 8:30 am, leaving him dead on the spot. Police seized the killer aut- rickshaw and arrested the driver, said officer-in-charge of Enayetpur Police Station Rashedul Islam, reports UNB.
AL leader killed in Habiganj road accident
HABIGANJ: A local Awami League (AL) leader was killed as a motorbike hit him at Masadia village on the Masadia-Dharmapur road under Lakhai upazila of the district this noon. The victim was identified as Ashraf Ali, a local AL leader and son of Jahur Uddin, a resident of the same area. Police said the accident occurred when a speedy motorbike hit Ashraf in the area while he was returning home from near a field. Critically injured Ashraf was sent to Habiganj Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, said Shamim Musa, Officer-in-Charge of Lakhai Thana. Police arrested the bike rider Sabbir, reports BSS.
Health Fair held in Debiganj
PANCHAGARH: A daylong free health fair was held at Samitir Danga Government Primary School ground under Debiganj upazila of the district here yesterday. Surjer Hashi Clinic Sonirvor Bangladesh of Debiganj office arranged the programme with the slogan, “Health is the Key to All Success.” A discussion was also held on the premises of the school. Deputy Commissioner of Panchagarh Amol Krishno Mandol addressed the meeting as the chief guest. Presided over by Debiganj Upazila Chairman Hasnat Zaman Chowdhury, the event was addressed, among others, by former education secretary and Chairman of Surjer Hashi Clinic Najrul Islam Khan, Country Representative of Pathfinder International Bangladesh Dr Halida Hanum Akter and Civil Surgeon of Panchagarh Dr Pitambar Ray, Police Super Gias Uddin Ahamed and Debiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Firujul Islam.
JCD leader among three held at Benapole
BENAPOLE: Police arrested three people, including a leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), at Baliadanga in the district town early Tuesday. Anindya Islam Amit, assistant organising secretary of BNP central committee, said a team of police cordoned off the house of Nazmul Hossain Babul, general secretary of JCD of district unit, around 2:20am. Later, they broke into the house and arrested Babul, his brother Sumon and father-in-law, said the BNP leader, reports UNB.
