One held with Yaba tablets in Barguna
BARGUNA:Police in a drive arrested one person with 200 pieces of Yaba tablets from Bhootmara area of Gourichonna union under Sadar upazila of the district last night. The arrested was identified as Pabitra Somaddar, 30, a resident of the area. Officer-in-charge (oc) of Barguna Thana police Md. Masuduzzaman said on secret information police conducted the drive in the area around 11.30pm and arrested him with the yaba pills. The arrested person was sent to jail, the OC added, reports BSS.
‘Thief’ lynched in Faridpur
FARIDPUR:A suspected thief was killed in a lynch-mob attack at Charhosenpur village in Charbhadrasan upazila early Friday.The deceased was identified as Helal Khan, 30, son of Moslem Khan of Dangi area in Sadar upazila. Quoting the locals, sub-inspector of Charbhadrasan police station Abdur Rab said Helal and Khokon Mia, 48, a resident of Khilgaon in the capital, were caught red-handed by local people while they were fleeting with a stolen auto-rickshaw around 3:00am. They gave the duo a good thrashing, leaving Helal dead on he spot and Khokon injured, he said.However, their associate Rahman managed to flee, reports UNB.

Narsingdi Tennis Club accorded reception to Delwar Hossain a member of Narsingdi Tennis Club who became champion (male single) in the Independence Day National Tennis Competition-2017 organszed by Bangladesh Tennis Federation recently. DC Narsingdi and the president of Narsingdi Tennis Club Dr Shubash Chandra Biswas attended the reception function as chief guest held at Tennis Club field here on Thursday evening. Presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) ANM Faizul Hoque Mayor of Narsingdi Pourashava Kamruzzaman Kamrul was present in the function as special guest. Mayor Kamruzzaman appreciated the arrangement and said the initiative is praiseworthy. He then presented Taka 10000 to Delwar Hossain and Taka 2000 to M A -Al Mohit who also obtained 3rd position in the junior tennis (within 8 years). District Administration also presented crest to Delwar Hossain and Mohit for their excellent performance in the Independence Day National Tennis Competition-2017. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue, Education &ICT) Mahbub Hasan Shahin, Additional District Magistrate Mozammal Hoque, Member Secretary of the Tannis Club Upazila Nirbahi officer, Sader Salim Reza and President of Narsingdi Press Club Morshed Shahriar among others were also present in the function.
980 bottles phensidyl recovered

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 980 bottles of contraband Indian phensidyl from Boitalir Char area of Shibganj upazila in the district on Thursday night. BGB said, a patrol team of BGB from Chowka border out post raided the area at around 10-30 pm responding to a secret tip-off and recovered the phensidyl in an abandoned condition. The recovered phensidyl were deposited to the local office of the Department of Narcotics Control.
Housewife commits suicide in Jessore
JESSORE: A housewife allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at Chandipur village under Monirampur upazila of the district last night. The deceased was identified as Jahanara Khatun, 35, wife of Rafiqul Islam, a resident of the village. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Monirampur Thana Police Mokarram Hossain said that Jahanara Khatun might apparently committed suicide following an altercation with her husband. An unnatural death (UD) case was filed in this connection, reports BSS.
