 Housewife killed in Sharankhola road mishap

Kamala Begum (40), wife of one Joynal Abedin of village Dwipchar under Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district met her tragic end when she fell down from a speeding hired motor cycle at Khada under the same Upazila on Sunday morning. Locals and the deceased’s family source informed that in the morning at 6 am the deceased went to Sharankhola Upazila Health Complex to visit some of her relatives who were admitted to the Health Complex for their treatment. After visiting the patients she was returning home by a hired motor cycle and when she reached the place of occurrence she fell down from the speeding motor cycle. As a result, she sustained fatal injuries on her head. At that time the motor cyclist fled away from there. Then some locals recovered the injured housewife and were taking her to Sharankhola Health Complex. But on her way to the Hospital she succumbed to her injuries. Md. Abdul Jalil, OC of Sharankhola PS told the newsmen, nobody could identify the motor cyclist. But the matter is being investigated by the police.
Digital Fair begins in Gouripur

A three-day Digital Fair was organised by the upazila administration with the assistance of A2i Project and financial supports of the government and donors began at Gouripur Pilot Girls High School in Gouripur Upazila of Mymensingh district on Tuesday. Freedom Fighter Alhaj Nazim Uddin Ahmed MP inaugurated the fair as the chief guest in presence of local people, upazila level officers, public representatives and civil society members. Syed Rafiqul Islam, Mayor of Gouripur municipality, and also President of school managing committee, Mahmuda Sultana, AC (Land) , Dr. Helal Udden, Upazila AL senior Vice President, Bidhu Bhushan, Upazila AL General Secretary, Rabeya Islam Dolly Upazila (female ) Vice-chaima, were present as special guests. A discussion was addressed among others by Freedom Fighter Md. Abdur Rahim, Commander of Gouripur Muktijoddha Sangsad, Md Sadikur Rahman, Upazila Agriculture Officer. Head teacher of Gouripur Pilot Girls High School Md Anamul Haque Sarker welcomed the guests .
Stone-lifting equipment seized in Jaflong

A taskforce seized six shallow machines and a stone extraction machine in Mandir Joom area of Jaflong in Sylhet on Tuesday. The taskforce formed with the officials of Sylhet District administration, the Department of Environment, police and BGB — conducted a drive in the area against illegal stone extractions.A letter against 12 men for their involvement with illegal stone lifting was forwarded to DoE to file cases. Zakir Hossain, assistant commissioner (land) of the upazila, said the 12 men were ordered to fill the holes — dug for stone extraction in seven days.
Miscreants stab trader, snatch Tk 1.37 lakh
Miscreants snatched Tk 1.37 lakh and three mobile phones from a businessman after stabbing him in Sylhet Saturday night. The injured Tofael Ahmad, 25, owner of Tofael Telecom at Naya Sarak and son of Nurul Islam of Ambarkhana in the city, was admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital following the incident, police said. According to locals, eight miscreants attacked Tofael around 8:30pm when he was returning home after shutting his shop.

 The attackers snatched away Tk 1.37 lakh in cash and three mobile phones from him after stabbing him in the shoulder and backside. Kotwali police officer-in-charge Gausul Hossain told that they had visited the spot after receiving the information. Steps would be taken after getting a written complaint, the police officer said on Sunday, adding that efforts were underway to recover the snatched money and the mobile phones.
