Int’l Mother’s Day observed amid festive mood

 Like other parts of the world and the country, the “World Mother’s Day was observed in Khulna city and at nine upazila areas of the district amid fanfare and festive mood on Sunday. According to the belief of the religion Islam, Child’s heaven is under the feet of mother as stated in the Hadis Sharif, words of the greatest prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). Other religions also have stated the significance of mothers. Marking the day, different cultural and social organizations arranged different programs at different areas in the city and the district. The Mother’s Day is a celebration for honoring the mothers as well as motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers. A mother gives birth to a child smilingly despite severe pain and obstacles. She fights with the impediment of the nature and wins to bring her baby to this world. It’s a fight between life and death for a mother.
BAURES honours 5 researchers

Bangladesh Agricultural University Research System (BAURES) has honour 5 top researchers of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on Saturday at Syed Nazrul Islam Conference hall of the university in Mymensingh. They were awarded in an inaugural session of the “Annual Workshop on BAU Research Progress of 2015-16”. Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof Abdul Mannan inaugurated the programme as a Chief Guest with Director of BAURES Prof Dr Md Monjurul Alam in the chair. BAU VC Prof Dr Ali Akbar addressed the programme as chief patron while Pro-VC of BAU Prof Dr Jasimuddin Khan, Executive Director (Agribusiness) of ACI Ltd Dr F H Ansarey was present as a special guest. Since its establishment in 1984, number of completed projects 1778, ongoing projects 335, foreign projects 22. BAURES awarded 5 researchers on the basis of h-index score for their contribution in terms of global research impact. They are Prof Dr Md Abdul Wahab of Fisheries Management Department, Prof Dr Rafiqul Islam of Soil Science department, Prof Dr M Jahiruddin of Soil Science department, Prof Dr Rafiqul Islam of Pathology Department and Prof Dr Ehsanul Kabir of Farm power and machinery department.
Arms trader held with two firearms
RAJSHAHI: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged firearms trader with two firearms along with ammunitions in a predawn raid at Bagha area of the district. RAB officials said they raided a house at Pakuria village of Bagha on a tip off and arrested presumed weapon trader Ziarul Islam Kalu, 34.”He was involved in firearms trading and trafficking for long,” RAB-5 company commander Major Ashraful Islam told newsmen, reports BSS.
Man held with 45000 shrimp fry in Barguna
BARGUNA: Police, in a drive, detained an alleged smuggler along with about 45000 pieces of shrimp fry from Fulhjhuri Kheyaghat area in Sadar upazila on Friday afternoon. Sohraf, In-charge of Fuljhuri Police Outpost, said acting on tip-off a team of police conducted the drive in the area around 2pm. The team detained Kalam, 25, resident of Fuljhuri village in the upazila and seized the shrimp fry from his possession, he added, repots UNB.
