Vet students demand increasing of internship wage

The students of Veterinary Faculty on Thursday submitted a memorandum to Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) demanding to increase their monthly allowance during internship. According to the memorandum, the wage of veterinary interns should be same as the basic salary of Veterinary Surgeon, the entry position for veterinary graduate in Bangladesh Civil Service, as stated in the Curriculum of Veterinary Degree Program chapter of Bangladesh Veterinary Council Act. Although the salary of veterinary surgeon has been increased in last, veterinary interns are yet to enjoy the privilege of increased monthly allowance. Prof Dr Abu Hadi Nur Ali Khan of Pathology Department, Vice-president of Bangladesh Veterinary Students Federation (BVSF) Ananta Paul, Joint Secretary of BVSF Siam Ahmed and Imtiaz Abir, Organizing Secreatry of BVSF Bulbul Ahmed, Exchange Officer of International Veterinary Students Association (IVSA) Bangladesh BAU chapter Mahdi Hasan, member of IVSA Moshahave Ahmed Nayem and Abdur Rahman handed over the memorandum to the VC in his office at around 12:00pm in his office.
Minor boy drowns in Sirajganj

A minor boy drowned in a water body at Shernar village in Belkuchi upazila of the district on Monday evening. The deceased was identified as Imtiaz, 4, son of one Imrul Hossain, resident of the village. Sajjad Hossain, officer in Charge of Belkuchi Police Station, said Imtiaz went missing in the afternoon. Later, his family members found his floating body in the water body adjacent to their house after searching frantically.
Police-public relation for militancy-free society stressed
RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a public gathering here have resolved that cordial relations between police and public in general can be vital means of freeing the society from all sorts of crimes like militancy, fundamentalism, terror-attacks and drugs-abusing. They viewed all-out support from the community is very important to free the society from the social crimes as police alone cannot attain the same. They were addressing an open house day and anti-militancy meeting on Katakhali Maskatadighi Technical School and College playground in the city on Thursday afternoon. Motiher Police Station under Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) organized the meeting to discuss and devise ways and means on how to combat the crimes with police-public collective efforts. On the occasion, 14 drug-traders were rehabilitated with rickshaw-van, sewing machines and cash money. They returned to normal life with a promise of not getting involved in the heinous act again. RMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam and Katakhali Pourasabha Mayor Abbas Ali addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with RMP Deputy Commissioner (East) Amir Jafar in the chair. RMP Additional Deputy Commissioners Abdur Rashid and Shirin Akter also spoke. RMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam said the community people should extend cooperation to the police with specific information about the criminals, reports BSS.
Drug peddler held in Jessore
BENAPOLE: Detectives arrested a suspected drug peddler with drugs and firearms at Boropota village under Sharsha upazila on Saturday night. Tipped off that a group of drug peddlers was staying at Boropota village with the firearms and the narcotic substances, a team of detectives conducted the drive, said officer-in-charge of Jessore Detective Branch (DB) Emaul Hoque. During the drive, the DB men arrested Mukul Hossain, 32, son of late Mahar Ali, of Boropota village. The detectives later recovered a shooter gun, two bullets and 200 bottles of Phensedyl syrup and one kilograms of heroin from the possession of Mukul. Later, a case was filed with Benapole Port Police Station in connection, reports UNB.
