Transparency in Climate Change Fund distribution demanded

Under the auspices of SANAC (Sachetan Nagarik Committee), Bagerhat and with the assistance of TIB , a human chain was formed in front of Bagerhat Press Club with Adv Ramkrisna Basu, President of Bagerhat SANAC in the chair demanding transparency in the distribution of climate change fund recently. It was addressed among others by Adv S M Jahangir Ali Babu, former president, Bagerhat SANAC, Prof Chowdhury Abdur Rob, former president, Bagerhat SANAC, Prof. ABM Mosharraf Husain, Vice president of Bagerhat SANAC, Prof. Khan Saleh Amed, Rehana Parveen Renu, Shaik Mujibor Rahman, Manjurul Islam Manju and Suruj Khan. All the speakers called to confront the climate change issue as one of the biggest threat against human rights, justice and national security in Bangladesh in international level. The speakers noticed that global warming has been threatening all human rights, and securities in Bangladesh which are designed to prevent destruction of life, health, education, property, livelihood, culture, means of subsistence, residence, movement, migration etc. The effects and threats from climate change in Bangladesh include devastating hazards of deaths and dangers from cyclone, flood, storm, water logging, drought and erosion, sea level rise, unusual changes in weather, changing bio-diversity and ecological balance and impacts on agriculture and food production, the speakers told.
Cop closed for taking bribe in Jessore

Jessore police has took punitive step to a sub inspector of Benapole port police station. He was closed to Jessore police line for having taka two lakh sixty thousand from 5 Indian nationals after entering into Bangladesh through Benapole border. The accused police sub inspector Noor Alam of Benapole port police station allegedly took Tk 2 lakh from Narayan Biswas bearing passport No Z- 4035164, his wife Shefali Biswas bearing passport number Z- 3990793, Basu Dev Ghosh bearing passport number P – 5104507 and Tarun Roy bearing passport number Z- 4035703, all hailed from Kolkata on Tuesday and Tk 60,000 from Kolkata based exporter Ali Hossain Kabir bearing passport number Z- 4037842 on Wednesday. The police official took the money from the Indian nationals at Benapole port police station after pick upping them from Benapole bus stand on Tuesday and Wednesday. They were told that the police would detain them with Yaba tablets if they fail to pay the demanded amount of money. The victim Indian nationals handed over a joint written complaint to the superintendent of police, Jessore on Thursday noon. The district police authority took the punitive step against the police official on that night after having the complaint.
Drug peddler held in Jessore
BENAPOLE: Detectives arrested a suspected drug peddler with drugs and firearms at Boropota village under Sharsha upazila on Saturday night. Tipped off that a group of drug peddlers was staying at Boropota village with the firearms and the narcotic substances, a team of detectives conducted the drive, said officer-in-charge of Jessore Detective Branch (DB) Emaul Hoque. During the drive, the DB men arrested Mukul Hossain, 32, son of late Mahar Ali, of Boropota village. The detectives later recovered a shooter gun, two bullets and 200 bottles of Phensedyl syrup and one kilograms of heroin from the possession of Mukul. Later, a case was filed with Benapole Port Police Station in connection, reports UNB.
Mason electrocuted in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: A mason died from electrocution while working at an under-construction building at Paranpur area under Charghat upazil on Saturday afternoon. The deceased is Mithun Ali, 20, son of Moktar Ali, a resident of Mungli village. Mithun came in contact with a live electric wire while working on the rooftop of an under-construction building around 12:30 pm, said officer-in-charge Nibaran Chandra Barman of Charghat Model Police Station. Later, critically injured Mithun was taken to Charghat Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, added the OC. An unnatural death case was filed in this connection, , reports UNB.
