Passenger microbus on Barisal-Keorakandi route stopped

Passenger carrying microbus services on Barisal-Keorakandi-Barisal route stopped following clashes between ruling party factions from Saturday afternoon.Although the service was illegal without any route permit and safety measures, but at least 17-20 microbuses giving several trips serving passengers since long days. This sudden suspension of the services caused immense sufferings of the passengers on the route.After visiting the spot and talking with the related sources it was learnt that Mamun Member, representative of district Sharamik League president Shahjahan Haoladar engaged in altercation with Mushtak Hossain, representative and Rafik Hossain, Jubo League leader and brother of Jahangir Hossain, SL backed motor transport workers union president.The altercation rapidly turned to scuffle and clash between both groups and spread to the areas of the microbus-stand adjacent to Barisal Nathullabad central bus stand.
2 motor bike riders killed in Kurigram road mishap

A Kurigram bound BRTC bus coming from Satkhira district knocked two motor bike riders in front of Kathalbari Sarnamohol cinema hall under Kurigram Sadar upazila at 7.30 pm on Friday. They were killed on the spot.The deceased were identified as Poresh 20 son of Raj Mohon of village Tograihat under Sadar upazila and Santo 22 son of Johor Lal Rabidas under Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur district.Police and local sources said after the incident the agitated people damaged the bus and blocked the road suspending traffic movement for an hour. Later police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control at 8.30 pm.
94 bottles phensidyl seized in Dupchanchia

Police arrested a drug peddler and recovered 94 bottles of contraband phensidyl syrup from Masterpara area in Dupchanchia upazila of Bogra recently. The arrestee was identified as Ameenul Islam Labu, 45, son of late Mozamme3l Haque Madhainagar village Kalai upazila of Joypurhat district. Officer-in-charge Riaz Ahmed said, on a tip-off, a team of police led by Sub-Inspector Shohel conducted the raid in the area and recovered the contraband drugs from the seat of motorcycle and arrested Labu. A case was filed in this connection with Dupchanchia police station.
House wife killed in Madaripur

A house wife was beaten to death by her husband at village Kalu Vuian Kandy in Kutubpur union under Shibchar Upazila of Madaripur on Friday night. The deceased was identified as Resma Akter (32) of late Akbar Sardar of village satiany under Damudya upazila of Sharitpur district. Police said, Rasma was married with Bahadur chokdar (40) son Rashid Chokdar of village Kutubpur under shibchar upazila of Madaripur before 11 years. On the night of occurrence they locked themselves in quarrel following a trifling matter of the family and Bahadur tortured her wife mercilessly. Resma died on the night there. After the occurrence, Bahadur declared the news of suicide of his wife. As soon as, police on hearing the news of death house wife mysteriously visited the spot, the husband of the deceased managed to flee.
Mobile court convicts drug trader for 6 months in Bagerhat

A mobile Court headed by Md. Rafiqul Islam, Executive Magistrate, Bagerhat arrested one Maleka Begum (45), a drug trader of village Ranbijoypur under Bagerhat Sadar Upazila with 1 kg ganja and convicted her to suffer simple imprisonment for one and half a years on the charge opf possessing 1 kg ganja on Wednesday at noon. S.M. Zafrul Islam, Inspector Narcotics Department of Bagerhat that acting on a secret information the department raided Ranabijoypur village, searched the house of Maleka Begum, wife on late Hasan Shaikh, recovered 1 kg ganja from there, arrested her and brought her before the Mobile Court headed by Executive Magistrate (of Bagerhat) who found her guilty and awarded her the aforesaid punishment.
