At least 20 people were killed when a boat carrying scores of wedding guests collided with a river barge at night in western Myanmar, authorities said Saturday, with more feared drowned as rescue workers renewed their search in daylight.
Most of the dead were women, according officials, who said the boat sank Friday evening on a river in Pathein, a port city west of the commercial capital Yangon.
Teen saves sister’s life in Tennessee fire; 5 others killed

A young teenager saved her little sister’s life in an overnight house fire that killed their parents and three siblings, a Tennessee sheriff said Friday. The fire was reported before midnight Thursday in Buchanan, along the Kentucky state line about 100 miles (160 kilometers) northwest of Nashville. At a news conference, Henry County Sheriff Monte Belew identified the girls as 13-year-old Lilly Pollack and 8-year-old Rose Pollack.
Over 100 children among 312 Colombia mudslide dead

The giant mudslide that devastated the Colombian town of Mocoa last week killed 312 people including 102 children, the country’s government said on Friday.
The mudslide hit a week ago after the heavy rains caused three rivers to flood, sending a sea of mud, boulders and debris crashing into the town. In the latest report on Friday on number of deaths, the National Disasters Risk Management Unit said 332 people were injured and at least 4,506 left homeless.
Pakistani police kill 10 militants

Pakistan’s counter-terrorism department says police have killed 10 militants in a shootout after coming under attack in the eastern city of Lahore. The department says in a statement that the slain men included a key facilitator of a recent suicide attack in which 13 people were killed in the city.
The statement says officers were on their way to raid a militant hideout based on information gleaned from Anwarul Haq, the alleged facilitator of the Feb. 13 suicide bombing, when a group of militants briefly snatched him before fleeing Saturday.
