8 BCL men hurt in BCL-JCD clash at BAU

At least 8 activists Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) Unit were injured on Wednesday in a clash with Jatiyotabadi Chhtra Dal (JCD). The injured are identified as Hasan BiswasNirob, Rasel Ahmed, Ashik Mahmud, EmtiazAbir, Kamrul Hasan Siddiki, AlamgirRaihanJuel, ShamimAkram, Bikash Ghosh. Sources said, the JCD activists were distributing leaflets among the students demanding productive education system. At around 5:30 pm some BCL activists obstructed them in distribution of the leaflet and chased them. They led the BCL activists into horticulture center adjacent to main gate of BAU campus. Later, prepared JCD activists inside the horticulture center attacked on BCL activists. About the clash BAU unit BCL Secretary Mia Mohammad Rubel said, JCD activists are trying to create unstable situation on the campus. He also demanded punishment of the JCD activists who committed the crime. On the other hand JCD secretary of BAU unit said that the VCL activists obstructed our peaceful leaflet distribution. JCD activists tried to defend themselves, he added.
Cash money distributed among relatives of death drivers

Financial assistance was provided among the relatives of the dead drivers in Jhenaidah on Wednesday noon. Jhenaidah bus-minibus workers union arranged the programme at their office at Chuadanga bus stand in the town. Presided over by the president of Jhenaidah bus-minibus owners union Rokanuzzaman Ranu, Jhenaidah municipal mayor, also the general secretary of Jhenaidah district unit Awami League Saidul Karim Mintu remain present as chief guest, while Jhenaidah bus-minibus workers union president Waliar Rahman, executive member Ekramul Haque Liku, vice president SM Abu Sayeed among others were present as special guests. Jhenaidah bus-minibus workers union leaders Batul Mollah, Saidul Islam Sayeed, AKM Majharul Islam Babul and Mijanur Rahman Mamun among others spoke o the occasion. The chief guest distributed Taka 80 thousand to the family members of dead worker Pikul Malita and and Anwar Hossain each, while Taka 20 thousand to the family members of Mahiuddin Ahmed.
2 held ‘with 16kg hemp’ in Magura
MAGURA: Police in a drive arrested a man and his wife along with 16 kilograms of hemp from Dighal village in Shalikha upazila on Monday. Tipped off, police raided the house of Siddique Shikder, 55, in the afternoon and recovered the hemp, said Rabiul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shalikha Police Station.Police later arrested Siddique and his wife Bobita Begum in this connection. A case was filed, reports UNB.
Woman held with heroin at Benapole
BENAPOLE: Police arrested a suspected female drug peddler along ‘with 500 grams of heroin’ at Navaran in Sharsha upazila of Jessore district on Monday night. Tipped off, police raided the house of Suruj Ali at night and arrested Momena Begum, 45, wife of Toiyab Ali, said Babul Akter, a sub-inspector at Sharsha Police Station. The law enforcers also recovered 500 grams of heroin from her possession. A case was filed, reports UNB.
School girl commits suicide

A school girl committed suicide by hanging herself from the roof at Mallick Road area of the city on Monday noon. The victim was identified as Fatema Tuz Zohora alias Faria, 14, student of class nine at Barisal Govt. Girls School and daughter of Selim Reza. Abul Kalam, ward master of Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital, quoting family sources of the victim, said founding Faria hanging from the roof of her bed room they brought her to SBMCH at about 1:30 PM, but attending doctor declared her as dead. Hospital authourity informing police preserved dead body of the patient at the hospital morgue for autopsy, Abul Kalam added.
Lightning kills one in Sherpur
SHERPUR: A fish farm caretaker was killed in a lightning strike at Madhabpur Morgachura in Sribordi upazila on Wednesday. Police said Budu Miah, 55, son of late Ismael Hossain of Bakultala village in the upazila, died instantly when a thunderbolt struck him while he was working at the fish farm during rain in the afternoon, reports UNB.
