Adv Enayet Pir Khan memorial chess competition starts in Barisal

The first Advocate Enayet Pir Khan Memorial international rapid rating chess competition started in Barisal on Friday.Barisal Chess Club, founded by late Advocate Eanayet Pir Khan, organised the competition at Abdul Khalek Auditorium in the city. Bijoy Krishna Dey, renowned businessman, inaugurated the competition and Jebunnesa Afroj, AL lawmaker, was chief guest of the inaugural ceremony.Advocate Manabendra Batobayal, president of the club, presided over the programme addressed among others by Shamim Khan, central joint secretary national chess federation, Saiful Islam Oni, finance secretary Barisal Chess Club.Total 46 participants including 16 from Dhaka and 1 grand master and 2 fide masters participating in the competition scheduled to be ended on Saturday, the organising sources said.
View exchange meeting held in Gopalganj

A view exchange meeting against on using of formalin was held at district fisheries officer conference room in Gopalganj recently. The meeting organised by a National Fisheries Week-2014 celebrating committee, Gopalganj. Journalists of local and national dailies including print and electronics media were present in the view exchange meeting. Among others Babul Kumar, Upazila Fisheries Officer, Gopalganj Sadar, Md Belal Hossain, Assistant Director, District Fisheries Officer, Gopalganj and Narayan Chandra Das, Assistant Director, grater Faridpur District Fisheries Development Project, Gopalganj were present in the programme.
AL leader escaped opening shots in Jhenidah

Ruling Awami League district unit organizing secretary and ex upazila parishad chairman Nayeb Ali Joarder had saved his life when he had opened shots on the miscreants tried to kill him on Monday night. He is the son of late Kasim Uddin Joarder of Dudsar village under Sailkupa upazila. Nayeb Ali Joarder said, a number of miscreants numbering five to six had swooped on him at about 11.00 PM when he was visiting Kachua-Malmali villages about six kilometers from his village home. The miscreants with Ramda’ stick, rope and other accessories had tried to kill him. Then finding no other alternative, he was compelled to open single round of shots from his authorized pistol to protect his life. Later the miscreants had left the scene, he added.
Minor girl drowns in Pabna

A minor girl was drowned in a pond at Naldah village of Pabna Sadar upazila on Monday morning. Locals recovered the body of the victim recently. The victim, Chumki Khatun, 4, daughter of Abdur Rashid of the village Naldah in Pabna Sadar upazila. Victim’s uncle Moharam Hossain said Chumki went on the pond beside her home at about 10am. She was drowned in the pond as she did not know how to swim. Family members and the locals rescued the body of the victim at about 12pm.
