JU BSU gets new committee

Bangladesh Student Union (BSU) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit formed a 31-member executive committee for one year with ImarnNadim as president and Najir Amin Choudhurry Joy as General Secretary. BSU President of central committee Lucky Akter announced the committee as the chief guest at the 27th annual council of the organisation on yesterday evening. The other members of the committee were vice president Shafiqul Islam,OaliurRahman Sun,Assistant Secretary ShoumikRahmanPartho, SiumRahman, Mir RummanOali, Organising secretary Ariful Islam Anik, Treasurer GorgShoaib, Office Secretary Salman Mahfuj, Education and Research Secretary SharderJahidul Islam, Publication and Publicity affair secretary Chandan Deep Mitra, Science and Tecnology Secretary Shushanta Kumar, Paul, Cultural affair secretary RakibulHaque, Environment and Social Welfare Secretary Kaberi Sultana Joti and Sports Secretary Mikha Peregu. Apart from, total of 13 others has positioned in the committee as member. This 27th council of this leftist political student organisation ended through a discussion programme and drama staging at Selim Al DeenMuktamancha at yesterday night. Earlier, a two day long convention began on Sunday while HyderAkber Khan Rano, one of the coordinator of education movement of 1962, inaugurated it as chief guest.
Two varsity students arrested with drugs

 Chaugachha police arrested Kamruzzaman Goni, final year honours students of Genetic Engineering and Bio-technology Department, Jessore University of Science and Technology Swagata Biswas, third year student of the same department and Mizanur Rahman, driver of an ambulance owned by the university, M Moshiur Rahman, officer in-charge, Chaugachha police station confirmed. The two along with the driver of university ambulance and four bottles of wine were involved in BCL politics, locals said. The OC, however, said the arrest was made while the three were enjoying drugs in front of Chuagachha Upazila Health complex at around 12:30am on Tuesday. ‘No wine was recovered,’ the OC added. Locals claimed that the two students, who were arrested along with illegal drugs, are involved in politics of Bangladesh Chhatra League although nobody admitted the information. While reached over mobile phone, Hayatuzzaman Mukul, public relations officer, JUST, told that he was unable to make any comment as he was in a meeting.
Massive Boro cultivation plan taken in Monirampur

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has been taken up massive programme for cultivation of Boro paddy in Monirampur UZ during this season. According to a reliable source of DAE , a total of 32 thousand one hundred hectares of land had taken target for Boro cultivation. The production target has fix-up one lac.34 thousand 20tones. The source added so-far a total of 29 thousand one hundred hectaresof land cultivation were achieved .More land may possible cultivate if thecultivators will irrigate the watery land Sources demanded. Cultivators nowis busy for preparing for transplantpaddy saplings.The irrigation work ofrest watery land is being going on, a reliable sourcewas informed this correspondent. According to the departmental source on last year a total of 28 thousand 695 hectares of land had cultivated. The cause of taken target more land than last year was price hike of rice. The source added, price of rice hike interested cultivatorsto cultivate more land.
Robbers loot 25 vehicles in Chuadanga
CHUADANGA: Robbers looted valuables from the passengers of 25 vehicles, including three night coaches near Ghoramara Bridge in Alamdanga upazila on Sunday night.Witnesses said a gang of 7-8 robbers put barricades on Alamdanga road with logs and looted valuables, including gold ornaments, cash and mobile phone sets, from the passengers. The robbers also stabbed three people, including a bus driver and a trucker, as they tried to resist them, reports BSS.
