657-project being implemented in Jamalpur
JAMALPUR: Various development projects are being implemented under Employment Generation Programme (EGP) in the district. Department of Disaster Management has allotted Taka 21 crore 77 lakh 36,000 to implement the Employment Generating Programme for the ultra poor people. District Relief and Rehabilitation Office sources said out of the amount Taka 19 crore 57 lakh 88,000 as wages for the labourers and Taka 2 crore 19 lakh and 76,000 as non-wage cost were allotted, source said. Under the programme 24,473 labourers will be benefited in the district. A day labourer will get Tk 200 per day as wage during the 40-day of the programme. The office sources said 69 projects in Bakshiganj, 106 projects in Deranging, 63 projects in Islampur, 196 projects in Jamalpur Sadar, 70 projects in Madarganj, 63 projects in Melandah and 90 projects in Sarishabari are being implemented, reports BSS.
One killed in Sylhet road crash

A middle-aged man was killed in a road accident when a speeding Microbus hit his motorbike head-on in front of Hazipur Awolatikor in Gulapgonj upazila on Saturday evening.The deceased has been identified as Sharon Ahmed Shera (54), son of Abdul Mutlib, a resident of Kunabari Purbopara village in Gulapgonj upazila of Sylhet district.”Sharon was going to his Awolatikor area riding on his motorcycle. When he reached the area, a speeding Microbus, coming from the opposite direction, knocked him down at around 5 pm, leaving him severely injured,” said OC of Gulapgonj A K M Fozlul Haque Shibly.
5 shops gutted in Chhatak
Five shops were gutted in a fire which broke out in a Madrasha market in Chattak upazila recently.Fire service sources said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop of the market at the dead of night and soon engulfed adjoining 5 shops. The Shops are Bai Bai Shoe store, KM Computer, Showrab Ahmed Enterprise, Kawsar Shoe store, Kuti Shoe store. On information, firefighters rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze after half-an-hour of frantic efforts. The shop owners claimed that the extent of loss from the fire would go up to Tk 21 lakh.
3 villages brought under power network
NAOGAON: Three villages of Niamatpur upazila in the district have been brought under rural electrification network by Naogaon Palli Bidyut Samity (NPBS) on yesterday. Local Lawmaker Sadhon Chandra Majumder Prodhan formally inaugurated the electrification programme at a simple function at Nandigram-Ghatipara village of the upazila as the chief guest.Chairman of Hajinagar union parishad Abdur Razzak presided over the function while chairman of the upazila parishad Alhajj Enamul Haque and deputy general manager of NPBS Engineer Ranjan Kumar Gosh addressed it, among others. A total of 104 families of three villages got the new connections. NPBS brought the villages under rural electrification network spending about Taka over 23 lakh, reports BSS.
Minor girl violated in Joypurhat
JOYPURHATA: minor girl has been raped by a young man at Srimantapur village in Panchbibi upazila. Victim’s father filed a case with Panchbibi Police Station in connection with the incident on Thursday night, said officer-in-charge Ashraful Islam of the police station. According to the case statement, Shahid Hossain, son of Mamtaz Uddin of the village, enticed the girl, a Class-IV student, to his house around 9am on Tuesday while she was going to her school. Later, Shahid raped the girl keeping her confined to a room.In the afternoon, the girl tactically ran away from the house and narrated the brutality to her mother after returning home. The victim was sent to Joypurhat Zila Modern Hospital for medical test, the OC said, adding that they were trying to arrest Shahid who went into hiding after committing the crime, reports UNB,
