20 gamblers get 29 days imprisonment in Sylhet

A mobile court has sentenced 20 gamblers to 29 days’ imprisonment each in Dakhshin Surma upazila of Sylhet district on Friday.Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) press release said,A team of police conducted a raid in the upazila on Friday afternoon and arrested them from Technical Intersection while they were gambling there.The team of the elite force, led by officer-in-charge of Dakhshin Surma Police Station Md Harun-or-Rashid, arrested the gamblers and produced before the mobile court.The mobile court, led by executive magistrate Shahed Mostafa, jailed them for 29 days.
Astro Olympiad held in Sylhet
The Sylhet Divisional round of Bangladesh Astro Olympiad 2017 was held at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) Saturday.A total of 120 students took part in the competition and 25 of them got chance to participate in the national round of the Olympiad. The event was organised by Bangladesh Astronomical Association jointly with Biggan Andolon Mancha.
Rally to protect birds in Jhenaidah

Jhenaidah district administration brought out a rally in the town and arranged discussion to create awareness about protection of birds on Sunday. The rally started from the old DC court premises paraded the main roads in town creating awareness among the people. Later, a discussion meeting was held in the conference of the deputy commissioner. Presided over by Deputy Commissioner Mahbub Alam Talukder, Deputy Director of the Local Government Rural Development Abu Yusuf Mahammad Rezaur Rahman, additional deputy commissioner (general) Abdur Rauf Manadl, additional superintendent of police Dr. Kaniz Hossain Jahan, civil surgeon Dr. Rashida Sultana, deputy director of the department of agriculture extension Shah Akramul Haque, Jhenaidah press club president M Raihan and executive engineer of local government engineering department Abdul Malek among others participated in the discussion.
25 shops, houses gutted in Hossainpur

Atleast 12 shops and 13 houses were gutted in a fire at Hossainpur Bazar of Kishoreganj district on Saturday noon. The fire originated from a short circuit at about 12.00 am on Sunday. Fire Service & Civil Defence Assistant Director Md. Dulal Miah said that, the fire originated from an short circuit Saturday noon at a shop of certiain Nurul Islam, engulfed the shops and adjacent houses. Received on information, Four units of fire fighting units from Kishoreganj and Mymensingh rushed to the market place and put out the blaze with the help of local after a frantic effort of two hours. Deputy Commissioner Md. Azimuddin Biswas, Zila Parished Chairman Advocate Zillur Rahman, Additional Police Super Mahamudul Islam, ADC (G) Torafder Md. Akhter Jamil visited on the spot. The shop owners claimed to incur a loss worth Tk. 3 crore 50 lakh in the fire.
