Bagerhat eleven own the championship in the final match of the 3rd Shaikh Abu Naser knockout football tournament-2017 held in Bagerhat Shaikh Helal Uddin stadium on Tuesday after noon under the auspices of Bagerhat District Football Association. Bagerhat eleven defeated Rajshahi A K M Kamruzzaman eleven by 1-0 goal after a keen contest. The only winning goal was scored by foreign player Yako on behalf the victorious team. Md. Obaidul Kader, Minister for communication and bridge affairs who was present as the chief guest on the occasion ceremonially opened the final football match while Shaikh Helal Uddin, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-1 who was present on the occasion as the special guest distributed the prizes among the players of the victorious team. The final match was conducted by FIFA reffries Kamal Uddin, Md. Monir Dhali, Azizur Rahman Babul and Sayed Altaf Hossain Tipu.
1,256 bottles of Phensidyl seized
BENAPOLE: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 1,256 bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup from Putkhali border point here on Monday morning.Acting on secret information, BGB members conducted a drive there and seized 25 cartons of the contraband drug, said Lt Col Arifur Rahman, commanding officer of BGB-21 battalion.He said there was no arrest as the smugglers fled the scene sensing presence of the BGB men. A case was filed with Benapole Port Police Station, reports UNB.
Magura couple held with hemp
MAGURA: Detectives arrested a couple along with two kilograms hemp of from Derua village in Sadar upazila on Tuesday night.The arrestees were identified as Bulbul Ahmmed, 40, and his wife China, 25, a resident of the same village. Tipped off, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police raided the house of Bulbul at the village at night and arrested Bulbul and China while they were selling the hemp, said Azmal Huda, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station. Later, the law enforcers recovered two kilograms of hemp from their possessions.A case was filed, REPORTS UNB.

The officer-in-charge of Jessore Kotwali Police Station was closed to the district police lines on Tuesday night. Superintendent of Police of the district Anisur Rahman said Kotwali OC Ilius Hossain was closed following an administrative decision.On Monday night, police arrested Binoykrishna Mallik, editor of Daily Telegram, a local newspaper, as well as the former vice-president of Jessore Press Club. Following the arrest, local journalists went on a strike demanding the withdrawal of Jessore SP and security of the newsmen as well as their family members.
2 held with 4000 Yaba tablets
Detectives arrested two alleged drug peddlers along with 4000 pieces of Yaba tablets from in front of NavaranFajilatunnesaGirlsCollege in Sharsha upazila on Tuesday night.The arrestees were identified as Monir Hossain, 25, son of Babar Ali, a resident of Alamnagar village in Sadar upazila and Rana Sheikh, 26, son of Babu Sheikh, a resident of Shangkarpur area in Jessore town. Tipped off, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area and intercepted a motorcycle carrying the duo around 8.30pm, said Emaul Haque, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch (DB) of Police. The law enforcers recovered 4000 pieces Yaba tablets after searching their bodies and arrested them. A case was filed.
