International confce on Ibsen , freedom held at KU

“Arts and culture bring people together and remove social barriers”, said Norweigean ambassador Ms. Sidsel Bleken while she was addressing in the international conference on Ibsen and freedom of speech, held at Poet Jibonanando Das academic building of Khulna University (KU), organised jointly by the English Discipline of KU and Oslo University of Norway on Friday afternoon. With the aid of University Grants Commission (UGC) , the three day long conference concluded on Sunday. The VC of Khulna university Prof. Dr. Mohammad Fayekuzzaman presided over the function The chief guest Ms. Sidsel Bleken told the conference that Henril Ibsenis writing is more than 130 years old, from a far way place on the other side of the world. Women’s right and freedom of speech were the essential in his writtings, she added. Sidsel further said, freedom of speech is a great threat in many countries unfortunately. She again said that we should have right to express our opinion freely.
One held with arms, ammo in Jhenaidah

The DB police in Jhenaidah have arrested a miscreant with fire arms and ammunitions from Kaliganj of the district in the early hours of Friday. The arrested was identified as Akter Hossain, 29, son of Ishahaque Ali of Jhanjhania village of Kaliganj upazila. Jhenaidah DB police inspector Daud Hossain said, they were informed that Akter was staying near Barobazer railway lineswith arms and ammunitions in the early hours of Friday. Following the information the police men raided the area and arrested him with a foreign made pistol with two rounds of ammunitions from his possession. The police said, the arrested was engaged in committing anti social activities in the area for past few years showing his unauthorized fire arms. A case was filed with local police station in this connection, the DB police said.
Weapons recovered from SBMC Intern Hostel

One outsider has been detained, sharp weapon and drug taking equipment were recovered from SBMC Intern Hostel on Saturday. Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP) with the help of SBMC and SBMCH authourity searching room no. 406, 408 and 409 of the Dr. Nur Nabi Intern Doctors Hostel on Saturday afternoon recovered a sharp weapon, (Da) and some equipment for taking drugs. Police also detained an outsider named Alamgir Hossain, a land broker, illegally residing at the room no. 409. Action would be taken about him as per allegation of the concerned authourity, he added. Dr.Vaskar Saha, principal of Barisal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College, said college administration decided to search the Intern Doctors Hostel because some students alleged that outsiders illegally residing there hamper safety, security and healthy environment of the campus area. Such kind of drives would be continued, Dr. Sirajul Islam, director SBMCH told.
3 persons jailed for keeping 1,100 Yaba tablets
RAJSHAHI: A local court here yesterday sentenced three persons to different terms of imprisonment on charge of carrying 1,100 yaba tablets. Judge of Speedy Trial Tribunal Shirin Kabita Akhter found the convicts Nurul Amin, Aslam Hossain and Mehedi Hassan guilty and pronounced the verdict here yesterday afternoon. The court sentenced Nurul Amin to 14 years rigorous imprisonment and fined him Taka 5,000, in default, to suffer six months more jail. The court also sentenced two others to five years jail each and fined them Taka 2,000, in default, to suffer two months more behind the bar. According to the prosecution story, in brief, is that a team of police arrested the persons and seized 1,100 pieces of yaba pills from their possessions in 2013, reports BSS.
