Students confines XEN in Jhenaidah

Hundreds of students of a government degree college locked the office of the executive engineer (XEN) of Roads and Highways and confined him in his office for an hour on Thursday. Later the police rescued the engineer dispersing the agitated students. Locals and eye witnesses said, the students belongs to Government Keshab Chandra Degree college in Jhenaidah locked the office of the executive engineer Selim Azad Khan at about 12 in the noon. They also confined the XEN and shown their agitation. Some agitated students said, the roads an highways department was not showing minimum interest to repair the roads at different places on the district which was mainly liable for road accidents. They (students) will go for tougher actions in near future if the roads were not maintained at an early time, they warned. When contacted, Roads and Highways executive engineer Selim Azad Khan said, he was not aware about obstruction and confining him in his office by some of the students.
Anti-Corruption swearing in held

 About 2,200 students of different schools of Chapainawabganj district took anti-corruption oath on yesterday. The swearing in programme was arranged by Chapainawabganj district unit of Durnity Protirodh Committee with the association of Chapainawabganj district administration on the Harimohon Government High School premises in the town. The swearing in programme was conducted by the law maker of Chapainawabganj Sadar constituency Md Abdul Wadud. Among others, Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj Md. Mahmudul Hasan and General Secretary of the Chapainawabganj district unit of Durnity Protirodh Committee Mosiul Karim Babu spoke on the occasion. The speakers termed the students the future leaders of the country and asked them to be inspired with patriotic and anti-corruption feelings.
People’s movement needed to oust govt

Bangla daily Amar Desh editor Mahmudur Rahman has emphasized the need of people’s movement to oust the ‘fascist’ government for restoring ‘democracy’ in the country. He said people of the country have no right of opinion now. Several laws were enacted to resist the right. Mahmudur Rahman was taking to journalists at Jessore Press Club on Wednesday afternoon. Amar Desh editor also told that free, fair and neutral election is impossible under the present election commission.
