Two jailed, 45 fined for gambling in Sylhet

A mobile court of in Sylhet sentenced two people to one month’s imprisonment each and fined 45 others for gambling Tuesday. Police said 42 of them — including one Jahangir Alam, a fish trader, and his associate Billal Miah — were detained from a hidden shelter of Jahangir in Kazirbazar area of Sylhet early Tuesday. Rest five were held from Laldighirpar area. Later, the court sentenced Jahangir and Billal to one month’s imprisonment each and fined others. Police also seized TK 1.77 lakh and 45 mobile phone sets from their possession.

A view exchange meeting on Anti-corruption was held at Bangladesh Sale and Distribution department of Electricity at Gafargaon Upazila under Mymensingh taking oath against Anti-corruption among Government Officials 0f Gafargaon with upazila Anti-corruption committee on 19th February 2017.To create mass awareness among Officials and employees at the office of Sales and distribution about Anti-corruption a view exchange meeting was held at Gafargaon Upazila sales and distribution Department at this auditorium. Assistant Engineer Md.Musharaff Hossain presided over the meeting. Dr K M Ehsan Advocate, President of upazila Anti-corruption Committee was the chief guest at the oath and view exchange meeting. Md.Rafiqul Bashar ,vice-president of upazila Anti-corruption committee conducted the meeting. Md.Abdul Malek, Asst. Accountant of Gafargaon , REB, Dr.K.M.Ehsan President of Upazila Anti-corruption Committee,Vice-president,Nirupoma Debnath of upazila Anti-corruption Committee, Sultan Ahmed,member of upazila Anti-corruption committee, Golam Mahmud Faroki Memmber of upazila Anti-corruption Committee , and Ajim Uddin Master, member of upazila Anti-corruption committee delivered their speeches to create awareness about Anti-corruption in the meeting.
Orientation on CRPD, SDG, RPD

Disabled Child Foundation (DCF) with the support of Australian Government organised an orientation meeting on UNCRPD, SDG and RRPD with stakeholders at Lalmonirhat Sadar under its project of `titled ‘To ensure inclusive and Quality Education for Students with Disabilities Through Advocacy and Capacity Building Programs’. The meeting was held at resource centre (URC), Lalmonirhat sadar recently The founder and Executive Director of DCF, Nasrin Jahan presided over the programme. District Primary Education Officer (DPO) Lalmonirhat Nobezuddin Sarker was present as chief guest. Upazila Education Officer of Lalmonirhat sadar, Rizwanul Haq, URC Instructor of Lalmonirhat Sadar Rokonuzzaman Khan and national award winner as social worker of Lalmonirhat Sadar Fersousi Begum Beauty were present as special guests. Smuggled Indian saris worth Tk.25 lakh seized

Members of the coastguards of the Western Zone seized Indian Smuggled Saris worth Tk.25 lakh from Rupsa Khanjahan Ali bridge area on Sunday night. M Fariduzzaman, Lt. Commander of Coastguard of the Western Zone at Mongla (Port) said, acting on secret information a contingent of the Coastguards raided Rupsa Khanjahan Ali bridge area at about 11 pm but the smugglers sensed the appearance of the coastguards and fled away leaving the Saris.

Then the members of the coastguard recovered seven hundred 12 pieces Indian Sharis from there. He added, a gang of smugglers smuggled the Sharis into the country from India depriving the country of customs duty and while they were carrying the same the coastguards seized the Sharis. The approximate market price of the seized Sharis is Tk.25 lakh. He further added, the members of the coastguards are working always to check the smuggling and such raid will continue. The seized Sharis were handed over to the Customs Department on Monday.
