One held with foreign revolver, bullets

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 in Nilphamari camp arrested a person and recovered a revolver and three rounds of bullets from his possession yesterday. The arrested person is identified as Rabiul Islam (45) son of Ishahaq Ali of Thengjhara village in Hatibandha upazila. RAB office sources in Nilphamari informed that acting on secret information, a team of RAB members led by local camp in chage additional SP Abul Kashem raided at a place near Saniajan bazaar in Tengjhara village of Hatibandha upazila yesterday. At that time they arrested Rabiul Islam loitering in the bazaar area and thoroughly searched his body and recovered a foreign made modern revolver and three rounds of bullet from him. He is being interrogated in the RAB camp at time of filing the report at around 4.00 pm. Camp commander additional SP Abul Kashem said that after interrogation the arrestee would be handed over to police. On behalf of RAB, a case has been filed with concerned police station
Prison Week observed in Jhenaidah

Weeklong Prison Week was observed in Jhenaidah on Sunday. The programme was held with colourful events like sports competition, musical soirees, prayer among the prisoners and discussion on correction of the prisoners. Presided over by the superintendent of Jhenaidah district prison Golam Hossain, jailor Nijamuddin among others spoke. The speakers discussed on the crimes some how committed by the prisoners and their role and responsibility in the family and society. They urged upon the prisoners to play positive role that must change their lifestyle. Later the cultural events were staged by the prisoners themselves.
UP Chairman orientation on MIE strategy held at K’ganj

Union Parishad Governance Project (UPGP), a project of Local Government Ministry, its supported by UNDP roganised a orientation training on Monitoring Inspection and Evaluation and MIS system with Union Parished Chairman held at Local Art Council hall on Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner Md. Azimuddin Biswas attended as chief guest while Deputy Director Tarafder Md. Akhter Jamil in the chair. UNDP, UPGP Manager Md. Nazrul Islam and Sadar Upazila Chairman Advocate Md. Shariful Islam, UNO Abdullah-Al-Masud were special guest. It was addressed among others by UZGP District Facilator Monir Hossain Mujumder, Senior Megistrate Arnapurna Debnath CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito, Jasodal UP Chairman Emtiaj Sultan Rajon, Mohinanda UP Chairman Monsur Ali and Chowdashata UP Chairman A.B Siddique Khoka. At least 105 union chairman of the district participents on the programme.
50 hurt in clash over trifling matter in Sylhet

At least 50 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over a trifling matter at Gazukata village in Beanibazar upazila in Sylhet district on Saturday. The villagers, equipped with sharp weapons, fought the pitched battle during an arbitration over the stealing of arecas, leaving at least 50 people injured, said officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Beanibazar Police Station Abul Bashar Mohammad Badruzzaman. On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control.
Two of the injured were sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital while the rest to Beanibazar Upazila Health Complex.
