Rhyme Festival begins in Kishoreganj

Staff Reporter, Kishoreganj : The Jage Utta Narsundha a cultural organisation begins a three day-long Rhyme Festival at local co-operative community center in the town on Friday.
A colourful rally, discussion, seminar, rhyme reading, drama and cultural function marking rhyme festival. Additional Commerce Secretary Md. Abdul Mannan attended as chief guest while Jage Utta Narsundha Convenor and The Shatabdir Khantha Editor Ahamed Ullah in the chair. Acting Deputy Commissioner Tarafder Md. Akhter Jamil inaugurated the rally. It was addressed among others by Principal, Poet & Senior Journalist Rafiqul Islam (Dadu Bhai) as special guest, District Awami League Secretary Adv M A Afzal, prof Rabindra Chowdhury, prof Pranesh Kumer Chowdhury, Abdul Quime, educationalist Abu Khaled Pattan, Sultana Rajia, senior adv Dholon Bhomik and Poet Kazi Abul Ahasan, Sadak Ahamed. A colourfull rally brought out in the town. At least thousand poet, writer, Journalists attended the festival.

Community Safety workshop held

The Prime Minister Secretaries, ICT Division and District Administration Jointly arranged a workshop on Community Safety Awareness by 999 help desk held at local collectorate conference room on Thursday noon. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education & ICT) Golam Md. Bhuiyan presided over the workshop. It was addressed among others by Sadar Upazila UNO Abdullah-Al-Masud, Senior magistrate Shamima Yesmin, RDC Hasina Akhter, MCC Director Tohidul Islam, Police Inspector Morshedul Islam BPM, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito, District Press Club President Mostafa Kamal, Scout leader adv Shapan Kumer Roy, journalist Tafsil Aziz, Ashraful Islam and Assistant Director of Fire Service Md. Dulal Miah, 999 Project Officer Mehadi Hasan and Dr. Imran of Civil Surgeon office. All Government, Non-Government officials, School Teachers, Journalists, Police Officers, CAB President, Secretary were participents at the workshop.

Trader electrocuted in Bagerhat

Din Islam Shaikh (50), a trader of fuel wood met his tragic end when he was electrocuted at Battala in the village Patilakhali under Sadar Upazila in Bagerhat district on Monday while he was cutting branches of a tree. He was a son of one Hossain Ali Shaikh of the adjacent Nataikhali village. It is learnt from the locals that on the day the ill-fated fuel wood trader was cutting down branches of a big tree and at one stage a branch fell on the live electricity line passes by the side of the tree and he caught the same to remove it from the electricity line he was shocked by electricity and fell down on the ground from the tree. He was being taken to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for his treatment. But on the way to the hospital he expired.

Two jailed for child marriage

BARGUNA: A mobile court here last night sentenced two persons to one month imprisonment each andfined mother for arranging the marriage of her underage daughter in Sadar upazila of the district.Executive Magistrate and Deputy Collector Rashedul Hasan said the mother Chini Begum had made arrangements for holding marriage of her daughter at Gangalia Village under the upazila.The court fined Chini Begum Taka 500.Being informed, police reached the spot and foiled the wedding.Police arrested the trio and handed over them to the mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Rashedul Hasan which awarded the punishment.The convicts are – Bridegroom Russel Molla, 25, and his brother Jasim Molla,28, and mother Chini Begum. The convicts were sent to jail, reports BSS.
