Amar Ekushey observed in Dupchanchia

Amar Ekushey, the Language Martyrs Day and International Mother Language Day, was observer under Dupchanchia upazila of Bogra district with befitting manner. Walking barefoot to the Central Shaheed Minar with wreaths and flowers singing ‘Amar bhaiyer roktey rangano Ekushey February, people are paying their deep respects to the Language Movement heroes who sacrificed their lives for achieving the recognition of Bangla as the State Language of erstwhile Pakistan on this day in 1952. Speakers said, “People at home and abroad have observed the International Mother Language Day since last 17 years.” “In 2000, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) declared February 21 as International Mother Language Day.” they added.In the mid night of 21 February, district administration, police administration, students of different educational institutions and all walks of life have placed floral wreath at the central Shaheed Minar marking the day.
Different political parties and their front organisations as well as socio-cultural organisations have chalked various programmes to mark the day. Drawing, easy writing competition, good hand writing and reciting poem competition also have arranged from the very early at noon.
Here, Upazila Norbahi officer Shaheed Parvez, municipality mayor Belal Hossain, freedom fighter commander Alhaj Abdul Mazid, Predisent of Awami-league upazila unit Mizanur Rahman Khan Selim, predisent of Juba-league Ahmedur Rahman Biplob, educarion officer Sarwar Hossain, journalist Golam Faruq and Emdadul Haque spoke here marking the day.
BCL men clashed during placing wreaths in Jessore

Two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League clashed with each others on early hours of 21st February during placing wreath at the footstep shahid minar at Chaugachha in Jessore. The two groups of the student wing of the ruling party – Ibrahim -Shafiquzzaman and Sharkar – Shamim Reza – are in loggerhead at Chaugachha, insiders said. Nargis Parvin, upazila nirbahi officer, Chaugachha told that the incident has taken place over placing wreaths at the footstep of shahid minar.
One killed in Munshiganj road accident
MUNSHIGANJ: A NGO worker was killed as a bus hit his motorbike on the Meghna-Goumoti Bridge under Gazaria upazila of the district this morning. The victim was identified as Pronab Saha, 40, a zonal manager of Bureau Tangail, a local NGO. The accident occurred when a bus hit the motorbike on the bridge from opposite direction, leaving the bike rider Pronab dead on the spot, said sub inspector of Vhaberchar Highway police, reports BSS.
Experts suggest intensified water sharing tri-nation cooperation
Rajshahi: Experts suggested intensified cooperation among Bangladesh and two neighbouring countries to overcome water scarcity as major consequences of water withdrawal from upstream of the Trans Boundary Rivers. “More effective engagement (of Bangladesh) is needed with neighbouring India and Nepal to stop water withdrawal,” Prof Dr Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, Pro-VC of Rajshahi University, told a discussion held at Kumarpara Padma River bank in the city yesterday. Water Commons Forum (WCF) organized the discussion in association with ActionAid as part of River Walk- 2017 started from Nepal on February 7 last. Large number of experts and delegations from Bangladesh, India and Nepal joined the river protection walk. With WCF President Foyzullah Chowdhury in the chair, former principal of Court Degree College Prof Shafiqur Rahman, fishermen community leader Faridul Islam, Secretary of Paribartan Rashed Ibney Obaid, Convener of Nepalese Grandark River Struggle Committee Badri Proshad and its general secretary SS Gupta also spoke,reports BSS.
Prof Sarwar Jahan says the problem is not for only the people of Bangladesh but also for the people of India and Nepal. All concerned should come forward and work together to mitigate the problem collectively.
He mentioned Bangladesh experienced a drastic fall of water flow in the Padma during this dry season.
“The unprecedented fall of water level in the major rivers and tributaries have created an adverse impact on the livelihood of marginalised people,”Prof Chowdhury added.
The natural scientist termed water as a fundamental human right and stressed the need for making the water accessible to all, especially the poor and marginal farmers, who are deprived of the basic rights, due to the water crisis.
