A two-day long Youth Conference on Climate Change has started in six venues of Barisal on Saturday holding rally, bicycle procession, photography exhibition, discussions and research paper presentations. Offices of Barisal Divisional Commissioner, Department of Environment (DoE) and UNICEF jointly organized the programme with the theme `Youth Action Youth Mindset, Safer Environment Green Planet’. Jebunnesa Afroz, lawmaker, Barisal-5 inaugurated the two day’s conference on Sunday morning at Barisal Ashwini Kumar Hall. Md. Gaus, Barisal divisional commissioner, presided over the inaugural session of programmes while AL lawmaker Advocate Talukder Md. Younus attended there as the chief guest. Md. Nazrul Islam, regional director of DoE, AH Toufiq Ahmed, regional chief UNICEF addressed in the inaugural session programme as special guest. Dr. Md. Golam Rabbani, Bangladesh Centre for Advance Studies (BCAS) presented his expert opinion in the programme.
Hindu faction damages idol in Jessore

An idol was damaged allegedly by a faction of temple committee at Haritala Temple under Chaugachha upazila in Jessore early Friday. Police and upazila suspect that the incident was taken place following feud over taking control of the temple. The police arrested former president of the temple committee Jharu Halder and Meghnadh Halder in connection with the incident. Sanjit Kumar Paul, general secretary of the temple committee told that two factions of the Hindu were come into light over taking control of the temple which is the only place of worships for some 80 Hindu families. ‘Followers of present committee offer Puja on Thursday while the previous committee on Sunday,’ he added. An idol was found damaged on Friday morning, the general secretary said. Jharu group earlier hurled petrol bombs at a residence of the area following the feud, the secretary further said. Arup Roy, president of the temple committee told that a case was lodged with Chaugachha police station in this connection.
