Veterinary students get surgical kit box

The third year students of veterinary science faculty of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on Wednesday received surgical kit box in medicine gallery of the faculty. BAU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ali Akbar distributed the kit boxes among 129 students as chief guest with head of surgery and obstetrics department Prof Dr Mahmudul Alam in chair. Among others dean of Veterinary Science Faculty Prof Dr Mahbub Mostafa as special guest, Prof Dr Mirza Abul Hasim and Prof Dr Jalal Uddin of surgery and obstetrics department and third year student Md Nazrul Islam Shakil spoke. The kit box includes 40 surgical instruments to practice the surgery of animals in the academic and future professional life.

Workshop on forest resources, biodiversity held at BAU

A day- long workshop entitled ‘Forest Resources and Biodiversity: Management Practices’ was held on in the seminar room of Crop Botany Department of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) recently. In the keynote speech country representative of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Bangladesh Ishtiaq Uddin Ahmed described the present situation of forests and the management procedures of forests of the country. He also expressed the existing problems in the forestry sector which includes shortage of fund, manpower and awareness of people and lack of policy, monitoring and accountability of the personnel. BAU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ali Akbar attended the workshop as chief guest with head of crop botany department Prof Dr AKM Zakir Hossain in the chair while Dean of agriculture faculty Prof Dr Md Abdul Quddus was present as special guest.

28 fishermen held with three trawlers loaded with Jatka

Some 28 fishermen were arrested along with 3 fishing trawlers loaded with Jatka from Majher Char area in the river Baleswar under Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district by the coastguards in the early hours of Monday. It is learnt from the coastguards of the Western Zone deployed at Mongla source that while the members of the coastguards were discharging their normal patrolling duties in the coastal areas found 3 fishing trawlers were returning from the Bay of Bengal after catching catch banned Jatakas (small sized hilsas) at Majher Char area. Then the coastguards seized the trawlers, arrested 28 fishermen and recovered 15/20 mounds Jatkas from the trawlers.

Indian trader killed in Jessore

An Indian national was beaten to death in Jessore town early Monday. The dead was identified as Ayub Ali, 45, son of Bahar Ali of Kulendapur village under Baira police station in South 24 Parganas, India. Mujibar Rahman, Hazrakhana village under Chaugachha upazila in Jessore told that the Indian national died at Jessore General Hospital early Monday being tortured by miscreants in Jessore as he went City Collegepara money.
