Motorcyclist killed in Sylhet road accident

A motorcyclist was crushed under the wheels of a speeding bus in front of South Surma Filling Station in South Surma upazila on Wednesday evening. The deceased was identified as Parvez Ahmed, 21, son of Syed Rana Ahmed, a resident of Galimpur village in Dakshin Surma upazila of Sylhet district. Mustafizur Rahman AC of South Surma Police station said, Parvez was going to his Galimpur residence riding on a motorcycle. When he reached South Surma Filling Station, a Sylhet bound Ena Paribahan bus crush him. People block road and raise slogan against Ena Paribahan and want speed breaker. At one stage police apply blank fire. After the accident local try to broke vehicle and chase counter chase held. At present situation is calm.
Founding anniv of Jugantar celebrated in Bagerhat

The 18th founding anniversary of the Jugantar was celebrated in Bagerhat district town in a befitting manner on Thursday. The day’s programme started with a colourful rally that brought out from Bagerhat Press Club premises in the morning and led by Tapan Kumar Biswas, DC, Bagerhat and Pankaj Ranjan Roy, police Super of Bagerhat as the chief guest and the special guest respectively paraded the main roads of the district town. It was attended by the newsmen, members of its local readers’ forum, teachers, students and NGO employees. After the rally a discussion meeting was held in the local Press Club with its President Ahad Haidar in the chair. In the address of welcome Shawkat Ali Babu, Bagerhat district based correspondent of the daily explained the motto of the daily and the role it played during the last 17 years as a newspaper in the true sense of the term. The meeting was addressed among others by Adv. Md. Mozaffor Hossain, Prof. ABM. Moharraf Husain, Babul Sardar, Haidar Ali Babu, Ahsanul Karim, Al-haj Abdul Baki Talukdar, General Secretary of the Press Club, Delwar Hossain, Sardar Selim Ahmed, General Secretary of Bagerhat Sports Association.
3-day flower fair begins in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: A three-day ‘One Bank Flower Fair-2017’ began in the city today aimed at meeting the gradually increasing demands of the flower-loving people. Rajshahi Boikali Sangha (RBS) and One Bank Limited jointly organized the fair at Moni Bazar premises. Different nursery owners of the city have set up more than 14 stalls displaying a wide range of blossoms. The fragrance of different types of roses, marigolds, gerberas, orchids, lilies, tulips, daffodils, petunias, sunflowers, morning glories, poppies, gardenia, gougainvillea, snapdragons, dahlia, nasturtium, begonia, evening primrose, clematis, knight queen, daisies, chrysanthemums, winter flowers, bleeding hearts, cosmos, hollyhock and many others wafting through the air has been attracting throngs of people to the fair, reports BSS.
Ferry service resumes on Shimulia-Kathalbari route
MUNSHIGANJ: The ferry service on Shimulia-Kathalbari route resumed at 9 am after five hours suspension due to thick fog on the route. Giasuddin Patwary, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), said the ferry movement was suspended from 4am due to poor visibility. About 300 vehicles, including buses, trucks and cars, remained stranded at both ends of the important route, he added. However, the ferry service resumed around 9am as fog started disappearing with the sunrise, reports BSS.
