Woman day-labourer killed as train rams in Jhenaidah

A woman day labourer was killed when she fell under the wheels of a train at Kotchandpur in Jhenaidah on Monday morning. The deceased was identified as Anwara Khatun, 35, daughter of Ali Asgar of Kagmari village of Kotchandpur upazila. Anwara’s younger brother Rabiul Islam said, Anwaara was a day labouarer engaged in earth cutting under local union parishad for a couple of years. She was marching towards the rail line near Battala in same upazila at about 9.00 Am and fallen victim of the train as she could not hear the sound of the train then. Her right leg was dissected from the body and sustained sock on her head. When the relatives were trying to rush her at local upazila health complex, succumbs to her injuries on the way, Rabiul Islam said. Kotchandpur police station officer in charge Biplab Kumar Saha when contacted said, they sent their personnel to the spots, while it happened in the jurisdiction of the railway department. Assistant station master of Kotchandpur railway station Nurul Islam said, they had handed over the body to the family after completion of some of the official formalities in the noon. An unnatural death case was lodged with the government railway police in Khulna, the station master said.
Ex- UP member held with drugs, counterfeit currency

Mahatab Hossain, a former UP member of Dhopakhali Union Parishad under Kachua Upazila in Bagerhat was arrested by the police of Kachua along with 7 pieces Yaba tablets, 2 hundred grams ganja and a counterfeit currency note of Tk.1 thousand form Battala area situated by the side of Gazalia Road under the same Upazila on Saturday at mid night. The arrested former UP member is the son of one Iman Uddin of village Chitabari within Gazalia Union Parishad. Kabirul Islam Molla, Officer-in-charge of Kachua PS disclosed to the newsmen, acting on secret information police raided the area at the night and arrested the former UP member from there and recovered the drugs and the counterfeit currency from his possession. The Officer added, 2 separate cases were lodged with Kachua PS against him.

A view exchange meeting on anti-corruption was held at Gafargaon Government College at Gafargaon Upazila under Mymensingh taking oath against anti-corruption among students, teachers, with upazila anti-corruption committee on January 18, 2017.To create mass awareness among students and teachers about Anti-corruption a view exchange meeting was held at Gafargaon Government College auditorium.Professor Md.Amir Hossain , Principal of Gafargaon Government College presided over the meeting. Dr,K.M.Ehsan Advocate, President of upazila Anti-corruption Committee was the Chief Guest in the oath and view exchange meeting. Md.Rafiqul Bashar ,vice-president of upazila Anti-corruption committee, presented the meeting.Principal Professor Md.Amir Hossain, Habibur Rahman Talukder,General Secretary of Teachers’ parishad,of Gafargaon Govt.College,Dr.K.M.Ehsan Advocate,president of upazial Anti-corruption Committee,Vice-president, Nirupoma Debnath of upazila Anti-corruption Committee, Sultan Ahmed,member of upazila Anti-corruption Committee, Golam Mahmud Faroki Memmber of upazila Anti-corruption Committee , and Ajim Uddin Master,member of upazila Anti-corruption committee delivered their speeches to create awareness about Anti-corruption in the meeting. Principal professor Md.Amir Hossain urged the teachers and students to come forward to remove corruption from the society. Upazila Anti-corruption President Dr.K.M.Ehsan Advocate administered the students oath about anti-corruption.
