College student cut under train in Gournadi

A college student was cut under train at Airport area while moving with headphone on ear, buried at family graveyard in Kataksthal under Gournadi upazila of Barisal Monday. The victim was identified as Farhad Hossain, alias Shayon Chowkidar, 20, second year honours student of marketing department at Siddheswari College Dhaka and son of Qatar expatriate Chunnu Mia of Kataksthal.Abul Kalam, Gournadi police station officer in charge, said Farhad was residing at the house of his uncle Habibur Rahman at Khilkhet Nayapara Port Road area and cut under train at 9:00 PM Saturday night while moving on rail tracks by sticking headphone on ear.His dead body was handed over to his maternal uncles Hannan Sardar and Nannu Sardar after autopsy at Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue on Sunday afternoon and reached at his village on early Monday amid sensational scenes. His dead body was buried at family graveyard at 11:00 AM completing Namaj E Janaza at Kataksthal Jamey Masjid ground after his expatriate father reached home from Qatar at 10:00 AM Monday, family and police sources said.
Wife killed, husband injured in Jhenidah road crash

A wife was killed and her husband was injured in a road crashed at Garagonj bus stand on Jhenidah- Kushtia road under Shailkupa upazila on Monday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Eti Begum, 25 wife of Pikul Hossain of Ropda village under Shailkupa upazila of the district. The injured is her husband Pikul Hossain, 33. He is undergoing treatment at Jhenidah sadar hospital.Officer in charge (OC) Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury of Shailkupa police station said, on Monday afternoon at around 6-30 pm Eti and her husband Pikul were returning home riding on a motorbike from their relative’s house. When they reached at Garagonj bus stand a speeding passenger bus bound for Foridpur hit them from behind leaving wife dead on the spot while her husband received injuries. On information police reached the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Jhenidah sadar hospital for an autopsy.

Sylhet hospital ransacked after patient’s death

Relatives ransacked Sylhet Women’s Medical College Hospital in the city’s Noyasarak area yesterday over the death of a patient in wrong treatment. Eleven-month-old Nusrat, daughter of Nazmul Hossain and Refa Begum of the city’s Sheikhghat Kolapara, was admitted to the hospital on June 17 with respiratory problems. The family said before her release yesterday the patient became almost unconscious. Afterwards, a nurse gave her an injection Serozid 500mg and around an hour later she died, said Md Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sylhet Kotwali Police Station. Despite repeated attempts, the nurse could not be contacted over the phone since the incident. Rashedul Islam, registrar of the paediatric department of the hospital, said a two-member committee was formed to probe that whether there was anything wrong.
