Lighthouse meeting ends in Srimangal

 A two-day long tri-monthly staff meeting was ended at Srimangal Caritas Technical Auditorium on Friday. The meeting was organised by Aloghar Project, Caritas Sylhet Region. Pius Nanuar, Regional Manager, Lighthouse project joined the workshop as the lead facilitator. Jatin Bakti, Area co-ordinator, Moulvibazar area assisted him at the workshop. The meeting was organised with a view to supporting the preservation and expansion of all forms of artistic education, and to promote the advancement of Aloghar project and infuse a sense of aesthetics among staffs. Earlier, a discussion was held on the ending day of the meeting workshop on Friday, inaugurated by Shisir Anjelo Rozario, Head of Aloghar project in Caritas central office as a chief guest. In this programme special guest Nuel Gonchalves, Programme Manager of Aloghar project in Caritas central office. The speakers were of the view that there is no alternative to promotion of traditional culture in the subcontinent. To nurture inner creative talents of the children, arts, they said.
Swechchhasebok League leader arrested with huge phensidyl

Detective police arrested Jafar Khan, vice president of Swechchhasebok League at ward 24, with 200 bottles Phensidyl from Chandur Market area of Rupatali in the city on early Sunday. Bhaskar Saha, Assistant Police Commissioner (detective branch) Barisal Metropolitan Police said Jafar was a contractor, but misusing his political identity doing drug peddling in the city since long days.
On basis of the tip-off police arresting him from his residence in the area when interrogated, Jafar admitted his crime and police as per his confession recovered 200 bottles of Phensidyl from a bush near his home. He was sent to jail after Barisal metropolitan magistrate rejected his bail prayer on Sunday afternoon, police sources said.
3-day children theatre festival ends
A three-day children theatre festival ends in Barisal with calling for separate children’s stage for performing drama and cultural functions in Barisal on Sunday night. Shabdaboli Group Theatre (SGT) organized the festival at Ashwini Kumar Hall on occasion to observe fulfilling the 10-year of its front organization Barisal Shishu Theatre (BST). The programme was dedicated to the memory of the recently demised dramatist Abu Al Sayeed Nantu. The concluding session of the three-day programme on Sunday night was presided over by Mizanur Rahman Babul, Vice President SGT and addressed among others by Ali Imam, Rabin Ahsan, writers and children organizers, Saidur Rahman Rintu, Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman. Prantik Sangeet Bidyaloy performed dances; Aparajeo Bangladesh presented cultural function and children cultural troop of development organization “AVAS’ staged drama ‘Amader Mukti Aloy Aloy’ in the ending session of the festival.
2 drug vendors held with phensidyl

Two drug vendors named Alim (30) and Raju (28) were arrested by the police along with 48 bottles of Phensidyl syrup from Bajua ferry ghat under Mongla Upazila in the district on Saturday. They hail from Paikgacha Upazila in Khulna district. Belayet Hossain, Officer-in-charge of Mongla PS disclosed to the newsmen, acting on a secret information police kept the two vendors on a motor cycle under surveillance from Bajua ferry ghat of Digraj area. Then police searched them and recovered 48 bottles of Phensidyl Syrup from their possession. At the same time their motor cycle was also seized.
Seminar on future of legal education held at RU

A seminar on future of legal education was held on Sunday at Rajshahi University (RU). RU law faculty organized the seminar at the department gallery room at around 3:00pm where over 150 students of the law department participated. Prof Mizanur Rahman, Prominent law teacher of the country and chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), addressed the seminar as the key presenter while Prof Bishwajit Chanda, dean of RU law faculty presided over the programme. Prof Mizanur Rahman in his speech said, legal education of the country must be modern and relevant to social demands. “Legal education should be designed not just to impart technical legal skills, but also to instil in law students a commitment to justice”, he also said. Condemning the lawyer who run after money, he urged the students to keep them honest and work for the under privileged people in professional life.
Boy killed in C’nawabganj road accident
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: A schoolboy was killed in a road accident at Kharakpur in Shibganj upazila on Monday morning. The deceased was identified as Faisal, 11, a student of class VI of Dhobra High School and son of Darul Islam, a resident of Kharakpurvillage. Sub-inspector Abul Kalam Azad of Shibganj Police Station said the accident took place when a lorry crushed into a bicycle Faisal was riding in the area around 8:00 am, leaving him dead on the spot, reports UNB.
