EU for two-state solution for Palestinians

The European Union has joined the outgoing US administration in defending the two-state solution as the best way to achieve lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
A spokeswoman for the 28-nation bloc reiterated the EU’s support for the two-state solution on Thursday, the day after US Secretary of State John Kerry tore into Israel for settlement-building.

Turkey detains 40 IS militants in raids

Turkey’s state-run news agency says police have detained some 40 suspected Islamic State group militants in raids in southern Turkey. Anadolu Agency says special forces police, backed by armored vehicles and a helicopter, conducted the raids in the city of Adana early on Friday.

Park won’t testify in impeachment trial

South Korea’s Constitutional Court says it cannot require President Park Geun-Hye to testify in her impeachment trial that enters the argument phase next week, dismissing demands by lawmakers who voted to remove her over a corruption scandal.
The nine-justice court on Friday confirmed the dates of some of the witness testimonies.

6 killed in mine collapse in India

At least six workers have been killed in a coal mine accident in eastern India, and police said Friday that 17 others could remain trapped in the mine.
S.K. Singh, the general manager of the Rajmahal Open Cast Mines in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand, said the mine collapse took place late Thursday and that heavy smog prevented rescue workers from entering the mine until early Friday morning.
