SUST employee killed in road crash

A motorcyclist was crushed under the wheels of a speeding truck in front of South Surma Filling Station in South Surma upazila on Tuesday evening. The deceased was identified as Harun-or-Rashid, 45, son of Khatib Miah, a resident of Adampur village in Rajnagar upazila of Moulvibazar district. He was an employee of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), reports a news agency. Additional Deputy Commissioner Jedan Al Musa of Sylhet Metropolitan Police said Harun was going to his Hatimbagh residence riding on a motorcycle. When he reached South Surma Filling Station, a speeding truck, coming from the opposite direction, knocked him down around 6:00pm, leaving him critically injured.
Free medical camp held
A day-long medical camp was held at Shahjalal Uposhoar Tibbia College premises by Sylhet Morning Walk Club recently. Free circumference, blood pressure check and free medicine were given. 60 children from poor families receive free circumference, one longi and medicine. Diabatis test and blood pressure of more then hundred people were attended the medical camp. On the occasion a discussion meeting held at 9 AM in college campus. Club president Dr A Sobhan presided and its Secretary Eng Mahmudur Rahsid Conducted the progrmme. among others Dr Abdul Wahid, Helal Uddin, Moyenuddin Shuhel, Hazi Anam uddin, Abul Fazal, Sud uddin also Spoke the progrmme. After discussion AD of Sylhet ITA Shah Nazrul Islam Conducted a dua.
Rhyme Festival held in Barisal

The first limerick Rhyme Festival (Chhaara Utsav) was held in Barisal on Tuesday. Barisal Unit of Jatiya Kobita Parishad (JKP) organised the festival at the auditorium of Jahanara Israel School of the city. The festival included discussion, cultural functions with recitation of limericks and rhymes, songs and dances based on rhymes. Principal Tapankar Chakraborty, eminent limerick writer and president of Barisal JKP presided over and Shuvangkar Chakraborty conducted the programmes of the festival. Among others Poet Asad Chowdhury, Aslam Sani. Aroop Talukdar, S M Shelly, Partha Sarathi, Mukul Das, Kajal Ghosh, Kowmudi Nargis, of Bangladesh, Deep Mukhopadhya of India participated in the festival. The participants and discussants of the festival said from sleeping the baby to protesting the anarchy, drawing attentions of the society against all irregularities for creating awareness to mass revolution, limericks and rhythms could play important role.
Reception to Nilphamari Dist Council chairman

Independent candidate Joinal Abedin who was elected the district council chairman of Nilphamari in election held on Wednesday was accorded a warm reception at his home by the freedom fighters and people from all walk of life yesterday. In the reception, Joinal Abedin said that voters irrespective of partisan attitude elected him as independent candidate and added that he would carry out his responsibility neutrally throughout his tenure as he want to be truthful to people’s verdict.
The newly elected district council chairman who is also former commander of Nilphamari district unit of Bangladesh Muktijuddha sangsad said that he would work relentlessly to realize the dreams of 30 million of people who sacrificed their lives for independence for making a prosperous and secular nation.
He assured all to be attached with the development programmes of the govt keeping himself in the good book of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
